What kind of bulbs (part numbers) are in the hi-beam lights of a 2008 VW Jetta SE?

There are two bulbs in the light. There is one in the center and one off to the side. The one to the left on the passenger side is out. Where can I find a replacement. Is it easy to replace yourself? I am talking out the hi-beams, not the outer lights with the VW logo on them. What kind of bulbs (part numbers) are in the hi-beam lights of a 2008 VW Jetta SE?My wife's Jetta needed bulbs. So I went to Walmart. Looked up the info on their index. Bought bulbs. Got home . Wrong bulbs.

Then went to VW dealership. Got the correct bulbs. Just $3 more. Opened hood and replaced said bulbs. Not easy. But not especilly difficult either.

Plan B was to let dealer install them if I couldnt. I replaced them while at the dealer parking lot , just in case...

Most people recommend doing both, even if only 1 is out. They usually last abt the same length of time. Saves time....What kind of bulbs (part numbers) are in the hi-beam lights of a 2008 VW Jetta SE?
The Bulbs in the 08 Jetta are an H7 in halogen. If your car is under the comprehensive warranty the bulbs are covered still, so you don't have to waste your money. Check with the dealership they will tell you. We checked at the one I worked at they are covered. The Xenon bulbs are covered too.

How do I replace or bypass the auto gearbox Inhibitor Switch on a VW Sharan?

I assume this is the fault, the car will not start or even turn over, it would seem like im not in Park or Neutrel but I am, in fact I can move the gear selector up and down the gearbox without having my foot on the brake. I looked in some forums who say this fault is the Inhibitor Switch, but where is it or can I bypass it?How do I replace or bypass the auto gearbox Inhibitor Switch on a VW Sharan? The inhibitor switch is by definition a switch that allows the vehicle to be started in neutral or park only, for obvious reasons. Its not a good idea to bypass this switch but in order to prove the fault the switch is external mount with four wires, and the opposite two can be bridged to test Which two?? just try Dont leave it this way but have you checked the fuse and before joining make sure there is a live feed Stay luckyHow do I replace or bypass the auto gearbox Inhibitor Switch on a VW Sharan? The switch is located on the automatic gearbox, you will see a small switch with three or four wires going down to it. You need to unbolt this switch and replace it. Should not need any internal disconnections as it is an external switch. (Don't be confused with the electronic speedo sensor. )

Can I change the key blade on my VW key fob to a new matching key fob from Ebay?

My girlfriend has just bought a VW Beetle and the key is not great. There are Ebayers selling new key fobs with uncut blades but a local VW dealer told me that I would be unable to get a key blade cut as they only come from Germany. Is this true? Dealer charging 拢190.00 for new blade, fob and re-programming. Thought about buying one of Ebay but this may not be a good idea! Then thought about buying one of Ebay and then switching over old blade to new blipper but would this work? Does it need re-programming and if so can this be done without going through a VW Dealership as they are a rip off? Can anyone help please? Can I change the key blade on my VW key fob to a new matching key fob from Ebay?No you can't do that as the key would have to be coded for the immobiliser in the car and that is contained in the key fob and each lock and code is different for every car that's why the dealership was charging for re-programming. You need the right coded key for the car so the best way would be to get a new key made altogether for the car through VWCan I change the key blade on my VW key fob to a new matching key fob from Ebay?
The car's central locking/immobiliser will need to be reprogrammed to accept the new blipper.

Only an authorised (VW) dealer is allowed to do this, for security reasons. Can I change the key blade on my VW key fob to a new matching key fob from Ebay?if your just looking to replace it because the fob is all banged up, you could take the key apart, and use the new fob "shell"

I don't how you are going to do that , I have a ford and the key is enclosed in the ket fob I guess those german Have a different system than ours, good luck,
Yes you can buy one, you just need to make sure the long code of letters and numbers on the transponder is the same as the one you already have. You can reprogram the keys yourself too, it tells you how in the owners manual. You just put one in the ignition, and the "new" one in the door lock. The manual will explain the entire process to you!

How do I activate the individual Opening feature on the doors of my VW Golf?

I've just bought a 1999 Golf 1.6 S. It says in the manual that:

"The central locking system can be modified to open only the driver's door or the front passenger side door without affecting other areas. Ask at a dealers for more detailed information on how to activate this system"

Surely someone out there can tell me how to do this?

I want to be able to set it so that the rear doors won't unlock when i open the front doors!!

Cheers! How do I activate the individual Opening feature on the doors of my VW Golf?you can only set the remote function to unlock only the drivers door on one press of the remote, twice all the rest unlock or one press all doors unlock.

Heres how to do it using a Vag com diagnostic reader access the central locking convenience system.

    46 - Central Convenience: -- KWP1281

Only on vehicles with power windows. VAG-COM fine. There are numerous options/ features that can be set.

    Selective Unlocking:

    [Select]

[46 - Cent. Conv.] (35 - Cent. Locking for manual window cars)

    [Recode - 07]

Write down the existing coding for future reference.

    Enter 5-digit code from below

    [Do It!]

Look at the existing Soft. Coding. If you have selective unlocking (press the unlock button on the remote once to open the driver's door, twice to open all the doors) the last digit of your coding should be an even number. To make all doors unlock, add 1 to the coding.

So, if you have a 2-door 2002 GTI that is coded for selective unlocking (00064) add one to make it 00065 so that all doors unlock with one press of the unlock button.

    Lock/Unlock Horn/Flash:

How do I change the Indicator bulb on a wing mirror of a VW Golf 04?

I have been told I need to take the door panel off, but is there another way?How do I change the Indicator bulb on a wing mirror of a VW Golf 04?It is a very tricky repair. You'll need some inverted torque screwdrivers, small phillips, and what they call a "dogbone" (a firm plastic piece for popping off plastic trim and such without scratching). First pop off the mirror. This will expose the inside so you can start removing stuff. Be very careful as the mirror may break if you don't remove it right. Then remove all the screws so you can take off the plastic mirror housing. You may have to remove the interior panel to access some of the screws. Some of the VW models you need to. It's not complicated, just really time consuming. Good luck! How do I change the Indicator bulb on a wing mirror of a VW Golf 04?Hi,

it is quite a tricky repair. The wing mirror casing needs to be removed first, and then the casing for the bulb itself needs to be removed to actually change the bulb.

The code says it is detecting insufficient flow in the secondary air system, which helps reduce tailpipe emissions. How much of a role did Hitler play in the design of the VW Beetle?

Is he responsible for the entirity of the design or were there others involved? How much of a role did Hitler play in the design of the VW Beetle?Sitting at a restaurant table in Munich in the summer of 1932, Hitler designed the prototype for what would become the immensely successful Beetle design for Volkswagen (literally, the "car of the people"). In an era where only the most economic elite possessed cars, Hitler believed that all people should be able to own a car and additionally thought that a smart design could allow for reliability, enjoyment, and vacation travel. The name given to the car in 1938 was Kraft durch Freude (KdF-Wagen, literally "strength through joy car").

Hitler gave his design to the head of Daimler-Benz, Jakob Werlin, and stressed its importance. "Take it with you and speak with people who understand more about it than I do. But don't forget it. I want to hear from you soon, about the technical details."How much of a role did Hitler play in the design of the VW Beetle?
the car was taken from one of Porshes designs for the Tatra.

It was modified by Porsh to have no part that could not be made in a small forge.

The design was started as the peoples car by Hitler and then oked by him and put into production. How much of a role did Hitler play in the design of the VW Beetle?IT WAS SHAPED LIKE ONE OF HIS TURDS
Quite a bit actually. See http://rexcurry.net/bookchapter4a1a2a.ht鈥?/a> for example.

"Adolf Hitler declared that he knew no good reason why millions of good hard-working people should not own their own cars". With Hitlers announcement, Germany began the quest to build a small car for the common people of Germany, and sixty days later, on April 27th, 1934, the first drawings were made by Dr. Ferdinand Porshe. By May of that year, Hitler had seen the drawings himself, and made suggestions for the specifications of the car. Hitler said" It should be streamlined, like a beetle". He wanted a lightweight, air-cooled, low fuel consumption automobile. He wanted these to be cheap to build. This project was titled "type 60". Eventually, in December of 1934, porshe had this car built, and it was tested. Porshe's engineers were great at chassis design. So then Dr. Porshe had a coachbuilding place contracted to build the bodies for these type60's.

See also http://www.sahistory.org.za/pages/chrono鈥?/a>How much of a role did Hitler play in the design of the VW Beetle?you all miss the big story..hitler put in a system of payroll deduction for all workers... they paid for years but most didnt get a car because the money went to the war and VW was making staff cars and jeeps for the armyHow much of a role did Hitler play in the design of the VW Beetle?
He wanted a cheap car for the people of Germany. When he had the Autobahn built only the wealthy people of Germany had cars. And the road was rarely used, so he ordered for a small car to be built for less than about three hundred dollars. Then on came the Volkswagen beetle. The only thing Hitler EVER did right was creating the Autobahn and Volkswagen and I thank him for that and that alone. God Bless America and the Volkswagen. V Dub for life. Yeah
The VW beetle was designed by Dr. Ferdinand porsche, after being commissioned by hitler to make a car for the people. IIRC the idea that hitler himself drew it was propaganda (to make him seem even more amazing). the early 911s and 356s from porsche used some similar styling cues, so its fairly obvious Dr. porsche designed it. The flat 4 engine was also porsche's baby (as seen in the 356, 914, 912s and 911s).

Dr. porsche also was pretty in line with the nazi party. He designed most of the german tanks which were so amazing during the war, and even several planes.

Porsche made essentially the whole car. another of his famous cars of the time period is the Auto Union D-type racecar. super super rare and valuable. How much of a role did Hitler play in the design of the VW Beetle?
Ferdinand Porche had the design 10 years prior hoping to design a car for the people. In the 30's Germany was an industrial powerhouse.

When the government that Hitler was the leader of, came into power(no different than Republicans or Democrats), Hitler also wanted to offer the people affordable mobility and he and Porche got together to make a car for the people. Hitler's govenment would be the financiers. Check http://user.tninet.se/~xnf969f/htmlfiler鈥?/a>

  • How do you run the speakers wires to the rear of a 1968 VW Bug. Carpet is glued down.?

Also, how do you get thru the firewall without drilling? How do you run the speakers wires to the rear of a 1968 VW Bug. Carpet is glued down.?There are two ways

    1) Under the carpet.. Remove one of the seats and you will usually find the carpet comes up with less hassle and nothing will show after the seat is replaced. This also gives you the ability to put a speaker under the seat if you wish. The carpet is easily reglued with a can of contact cement which you can pick up in any hardware store.

    2) Over the headliner. Use a long pull wire (which electricians use to fish wires thru walls) and run a lead from the dome light down into the hood area.. then pull a wire up from that side ..

Then do the same trick to fish a wire into the rear by the storage area. Pull up the headliner below at the bottom and fish out the wire.. then use THAT wire to pull in your speaker wires. (You can also use that same wire to put other things back there like power leads and a rear seat light if you wish).

It is handy to have help with this option..

easy jobs.. they just require patience ...

.How do you run the speakers wires to the rear of a 1968 VW Bug. Carpet is glued down.?You can route wire from front to back just like VW does in the factory.

From the truck remove the dashboard cover. Locate the main wire harness,

and take notice how it is routed to the side of the dashboard. It then is routed up

through the body continuing in the tunnel that becomes the top of the door frame.

You can do the same with the passenger side door frame. It is easy. From the engine

compartment figure out how to take stiff wire and snake it through the tunnel. You will have to remove some dampening material. After the wire has been pulled, You might have to drill some holes to the spot where the speakers will be mounted.

Sell that car and find one with a 5spd and the vr6 engine. How can i make a 1995 vw jetta with automatic trans faster?
it's not worth it at all. first off, it's an automatic and you only have 4 gears. the automatic Jettas had very tall ratios considering they were geared to go about 120-130, and your acceleration definitely suffers because of which. when your car was stock, it only had about 100-110hp. also factor in that it's 15 years old and probably has a lot of miles, your power reading right now is definitely less than 100hp. it's just not worth it man, even if it was a 5-speed. even if you go buy an intake, header, chip, etc you're only going to be making about 120-130hp tops after spending close to $1000. that's about the same power as a stock Civic EX from the same year, and it'll still be slow as hell. How can i make a 1995 vw jetta with automatic trans faster? You can do a couple of things like free flow air filter and a larger bore exhaust system but you are governed by your transmission. As others state, the car has age and mileage on its back and you may send it to an early grave if you thrash it about. If you do want to spend a bit of time and cash put a manual box in it together with the air filter and exhaust and it will feel a good deal more lively. If you then want to go on and have the engine worked on in the shape of re-chipping etc its up to you.How can i make a 1995 vw jetta with automatic trans faster?

Actually the locking tool is there but the groove is damaged and the alloy wheels mean that the bolts are quite recessed. How can i remove or get help removing locking nuts on my VW Sharan wheels having lost the locking nut tool? Most mechanics have a special tool to remove them. You are getting some good advice, just another thought for you. I went through this on my first car. I had to split the darn thing in half using a grinder. Maybe a combo approach of the chisel like someone else suggested and grinding will work for you. Something else that might help is heating it up using a propane torch. The metal will expand as it is heated, especially if it is a cheaper make of locking nut, making it easier to remove. Don't over heat as the stud will heat and expand as well. Hopefully one of the suggestions you are getting will work. Good luck. How can i remove or get help removing locking nuts on my VW Sharan wheels having lost the locking nut tool?go to a garage that does repairs.. They have a tool to remove them.. How can I convince my dad to let me get a 97 vw cabrio?

I've tried to tell him that it's a reliable, relatively safe, car. But he refuses to even consider it because it's a convertible.

It's cheap too, just $3000. It only has 97,000 miles too. I really don't see anything wrong with this. And I want it so bad! I've also been driving a piece for the last couple months, and I'm a responsible driver. How can I convince him that I should get thi car?How can I convince my dad to let me get a 97 vw cabrio?Agree with voter22.

Also, let dad know that the Cab has a steel roll bar welded to the chassis. In the very unlikely event the car is rolled. This roll bar adds structural rigidity to the entire vehicle, making it a stable , firm platform . This makes it more controlable in accident avoidance.

Plus, unlike other convertibles in its class, the Cab has a 6-layered cloth and vinyl top to keep you warm and toasty in winter; cool in summer too. And it has a real glass rear window [with defroster]. Most other converts just have a plastic window that turns yellow and brittle; then you cant see out of it.

I owned a Cab for 5 fun filled years. Super-reliable and economical to operate.

I have 2 sons; no daughter. But if I had a daughter, I wouldn't hesitate to see her in a Cab.....How can I convince my dad to let me get a 97 vw cabrio?Who's paying for the car? And the insurance? And the gas? Are you working? If so, convince him that the car is needed to get to work and back and you will be paying the expenses. Then, if you still want the car, be sure to ask for any recent repair/maintenance records, then have the cabrio fully checked over so you don't end up with huge repair bills. A 13 year old car might be fine, but only if it has been well maintained. If you can show your dad that you're being smart about your choice he'll be more likely to support it.

When do I need to replace the timing belt in a 2000 VW Jetta?

My 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS has 126,000 miles on it. Just bought it from a local dealer 2 weeks ago and the dealer doesn't know if the previous owner had already replaced the timing belt. Thanks. When do I need to replace the timing belt in a 2000 VW Jetta? You haven't said what engine is in the vehicle; the TDI automatic gets a replacement every 40K, manual transmission gets it at 60k, the 1.8 turbo at 105k as does the v6 motor. The 2.0 NON turbo motor does not have a scheduled replacement, though its generally agreed that either 7 years or 105K is suggested for replacement. You can view the factory schedule at: http://www.bentleypublishers.com/tech/vw鈥?/a> In any case, it is always advisable to replace the tensioners/guides and/or tensioner rollers and water pump at the same time since the belt is off and the access to these items is very easy once the belt is off.

You should have someone remove the upper timing belt/cam belt cover to inspect the belt and the tensioner(s), if the belt has a name other than VW printed on it, (LIKE Gates, Goodyear, Continental, etc. and NO VW name or part number is on the belt, then its been replaced. Still, check the condition of the tensioner if possible and the water pump as well. I've seen a number of these jobs were people have just replaced the timing belt only and passed on the other items! This is foolish, and is likely to cause problems sooner rather than later...

Hope this helps, a car nut. When do I need to replace the timing belt in a 2000 VW Jetta? You can self check the timing belt yourself. I am not sure if the 2000 jetta has a belt cover. In that case it will be much harder to check because you will have to remove this which is not so easy. If it does not you will want to locate the timing belt. You can see how corroded it is by jsut looking at it. If it is brownish or torn or looks weathered at all you can take it to a mechanic for a cheap replacement. The recommended replacement for timing belts is 60-100k miles. Turn the engine on. If you get a whaling sound from the timing belt or a whistle then it is most likely time to change it. If the whaling is from another source...replace your fan belt. When do I need to replace the timing belt in a 2000 VW Jetta? They are suppose to be done every 60 thou. So that means you should have had yours done twice. But you don't know the previous owner of the car. They may never had done it. For the cost of it (which is not much) and the cost to have a shop do it(I don't know that number as I did my own), is it really worth the risk? If you plan on keeping the car for awhile, I would definitely do it because if it snaps, that is the end of that engine. It is toast. The thing is, one cannot tell if the belt is new or old just by looking at it.......so toss it and get it done. Any garage that fixes VW's can do it. The dealership will probably be 3x's the cost. Ask them for a price before you decide. Ask other VW owners for their recommendations of a good shop. When do I need to replace the timing belt in a 2000 VW Jetta?
If you can find no written or documented evidence of it being done then for heavens sake get it done ! A failure can be many many hundres of pounds .....

  • What size tire should I have for increased Handling in my 68 VW Bug?

I currently have some small and thin looking tires, and find myself being tossed around easily by "high" speed and other drivers. I know wider tires can help, but what size would be perfect to solve this problem? What size tire should I have for increased Handling in my 68 VW Bug?185 65 15 will fit under front fender without issues and up to 205 60 15 will fit under the rear fender. These tires will also fit your stock rims.

The inflation info given in some one else's link is for bias ply tires not radials. Good luck finding bias ply tires with out mail ordering them. Bias ply tires won't handle well at all any way. The tires i mentioned will fit the stock 5 1/2" wide rims and they will fit under your fenders without rubbing. Check your rim width at the tire store they may only be 5" wide rims and the 205's will be too wide, may have to go with 195's in the rear. The tire store should have calipers to measure your rims with out even taking them off your car. You can go to this site and calculate tire size and come up with a size that is close to stock diameter so you keep the speedo and stock gear ratio where they were designed to be or at least very close. Never ever pop the clutch for a burn out or you will blow your tranny. What size tire should I have for increased Handling in my 68 VW Bug?How about the size that VW prescribed to the car, 165R15, set the tire pressures to 16-18 front and 24-26 back so you have grip on the road. Below is a link to your owners manual page that explains the tires and pressures.

What is better water cooled or air cooled vw transporter?

I am wanting to buy a vw transporter t3 and I am wondering witch one to buy, air cooled or water cooled. What is better water cooled or air cooled vw transporter?Early 80's water cooled were nightmares, you will find nobody to work on it or even help you work on it. Get a mid 70's aircooled. Then source the 1972-1974 heater boxes for more exhaust options. the exhaust for the later ones are expensive and there really aren't many options for replacement. Go here.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/What is better water cooled or air cooled vw transporter?
Air cooled is cheaper and easier to work on. Water cooled has had lots of problems with head gaskets. I would also consider going with an earlier model due to the fact that the Vanagon model is a bit heavy for its engine. Bay window buses and split window buses are appreciating in value allot quicker. Better investment, better mileage, cheaper parts, easier to understand. Best of all no need to add that pesky water to your motor :)

The question is to vague. Is like who is better? You or me? Better base on what? Longevity? Maintenance, performance? There is three different sizes to work with. You will need a dial caliper to take these three measurements so you can call a company that specializes in air cooled VW engines to get the correct bearings you need.

I removed the middle one and put in some cabinets for my diving gear, ice chest (for the fish and abalone) and general storage. the tops of these could be converted to more bed space by a pull-down set of acordion folding panels... A second battery and a bypass system allowed lights and DC power to be used at night without fear of a dead starter battery in the AM. I also outfitted mine with a second fuel tank to up the driving range to a bit under 600 miles per fillup. (back in the days when gas was about 70 cents a gallon).

BUT.. in general the factory interior had quite a few options from seats to mini-camper options including a stove and icebox. On some models the roof lifted to provide headroom and a tent like top.

Has anyone ever changed the computer and how do i change mine?

About how long does it take?

I already know where to purchase the new chip, I just need to know what are the procedures.

Ten points to first response with all the answers. How do I go about changing the computer chip in my 1999 VW Golf?changing the chip its self is rather easy, all you have to do is open up the ecu, pop out the old chip and pop in the new one. but here is where things get sticky. . . . . .First you have to locate the ecu, then once you locate it, don't touch it yet cus if you arnt standing on a grounding mat or wearing grounding straps you will fry the chips. if done correctly it will take you about 45min to 1.5hrs to do, but i only recommend taking on this kind of modification/tuning if you are a professional. But if you really want to save money and do it your self, you can get a repair manual for your car at autozone or discount auto and it will tell you where the ecu is in your car.

How much can a 2007 VW Jetta, with approximately 44k miles cost?

Wow....please do yourself a favor and do some more research on reliability before making a decision in vehicles. A Jetta is one of the least reliable vehicles out there; especially a used one.

I wouldn't touch this car, but the best way to find out if a price is fair is to go to a number of different sources and compare prices. See what other people are advertising similar cars for on autotrader.com and go to edmunds.com and get the true market value of the vehicle.

kbb is a decent guestimate, but their prices tend to be a little overvalued/overestimated compared to the real world.

All in all, the amount you can get the vehicle for depends on how much the dealer has into the car. If he bought it for $10,000 and then put $500 into reconditioning the vehicle, he won't accept your offer. However, if he bought it for $8,000 and he is inflating what he thinks it will sell for, you may stand a chance with your $10K offer.

It doesn't hurt for you to make an offer as long as you can accept the fact that you just may need to walk away if you aren't comfortable with the price. How much can a 2007 VW Jetta, with approximately 44k miles cost?Well options have a lot lot to do with the price when you are only talking about a couple grand. The way I see it, the base car with 44 thousand miles is worth about $12,600 as an asking price. Now how negotiable you can get I don't really know. What I'm trying to say is if the car is not a base model and is already at 12k then there probably isn't much negotiating room. If the car is a base model and they are asking 12k, then you may be able to get it into the 10k range. How much can a 2007 VW Jetta, with approximately 44k miles cost?i BOUGHT MY 2005 FOR 3000 BUT I DONT RECOMEND YOU THAT CAR THEY BRAKE FAST AND I HEARD THE WORSE ...How much can a 2007 VW Jetta, with approximately 44k miles cost?

What would cause coolant to run out very quickly in a VW Golf?

I have checked for leaks which i cannot find any sign of and the temperature dial is normal. I have been told its because I have the in car heater on more because of the winter temperatures but I have had to top it up twice in about 3 weeks and that doesn't seem right. Should I get it checked out at my local garage? What would cause coolant to run out very quickly in a VW Golf?Bad hose, leak in heater core ,leak in radiator, water pump has weep hole if seals go bad in pump weep hole will leak. Also your head gasket can be blown and it could go two ways in the oil jacket or in the combustion chamber so , in the oil it will make your oil look milky if it went into the combustion chamber it will go out the exhaust and cause steam out your tail pipe. but if you have to keep adding coolant i would take it in and have it checked. What would cause coolant to run out very quickly in a VW Golf?
"i have been told" by who? cars cooling system is closed..unless its leaking it or burning it level should not go down...

1 get garage to do "leak down" test...puts pressure on system to see if it holds pressure

2 check oil for signs of coolant/water...brown foamy mud. What would cause coolant to run out very quickly in a VW Golf?if you have checked for leaks and havent found any then check your passenger side floor under the dash. if it feels damp, soggy, or smells like mildew then your heater core is leaking. easy diagnosis.
Make sure you are using the correct fluid, and you get 4-5 different types/colors.

Another thing to do, just to make sure for definite that there is no leak, is to use a product called K-Seal. amazing stuffWhat would cause coolant to run out very quickly in a VW Golf?Well double check for leaks ,, but one reason could be a blown head gasket causing coolant to enter engine cylinders and be heated and is steam in exhaust . Even worse could be a cracked engine blockWhat would cause coolant to run out very quickly in a VW Golf?
Ask the garage. They can pressure-test the system to find leaks that aren't apparent with the engine off.
The car does not use more water because the heater is used. It is normally a closed sealed system. If there are no leaks you have a blown head gasket. What would cause coolant to run out very quickly in a VW Golf?
it sounds like you could have whats called a perforated hose where you cannot see the leak as it leake s under pressure
as well as all the above it could be a leaking water pump, when the engine get hot, but not leaking when cold.
your dealership has the answer. I would ask them. it might be cheaper than a newer car
are you sure its not finding its own level,it depends how much your having to put in

How much would a 2002 VW with 4 bad valves cost?

I have a 1.8T 2002 Volkswagen with 125k miles and just changed its Timing belt but found out the 4 valves are bent. I am thinking on selling this car the way it is. How much do you think I can get from this? Please just serious answers :)!How much would a 2002 VW with 4 bad valves cost?Probably not worth more than $1500. However if you did the timing belt already, then you can probably get the head off pretty quick since you know your way around the car already. The valves themselves shouldn't be more than $10 each (although I could be wrong, this car has $100 ignition wires which was a real shocker to me, so who knows what they charge for valves). So if you just swap them out or even getting a head from a junkyard, you could greatly increase the value of the car to 3 or 4, maybe even $5,000.How much would a 2002 VW with 4 bad valves cost? This is how you figure it out. How much is the car worth if it was running? A valve job on a VW turbo isn't going to be a cheap repair and while you've got the engine apart you might as well do the entire top end so it's more than just replacing 4 bent valves. Estimate the cost of repairs.

Subtract the repair costs from the value of the car if it were running and that is your sellng price.

  • What type, weight & brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?

I am a 17 yr old female who just bought her first car a 1993 VW Passat with a VR6 motor. Would anyone know what the manufacture recommends to use when doing a oil change as far as weight, brand %26amp; type ? ( synthetic -? )What type, weight %26amp; brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?if you have owners manual is in there, or any auto parts store can tell you or go on line to the NAPA web site or auto zone web site and it will tell you. What type, weight %26amp; brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?
brand is not an issue. if you have the owner's manual, look in there, it will tell you. if not, call a vw dealer and ask them. it is probably 5w30.What type, weight %26amp; brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?i think 10-40 Valvoline would be the best.in a car of this age i cant see the point of using an expensive or synthetic oil. What type, weight %26amp; brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?
you should use a castrol semi synthetic oil at a 10w40, also don't forget to change the oil filterWhat type, weight %26amp; brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?see if you can find out what brand of oil the previous owner used and stick with that brand . it is sometimes bad to change up brands. as long as it is sae approved oil with weight that is in step with the driving temps you should be fine. What type, weight %26amp; brand of oil should I be using in my 1993 VW Passat?
    Well congratulations!!

5W30 is the recommended oil. I have all my customers running synthetics in thier VW's.

Brands are more a matter of preferance than anything. Personnally, I like Amsoil. Harder to find, but the only pure synthetic on the market. But the key to synthetic oil is to use a filter designed for it. Its more costly, but how much is your car worth to you??
First of all, I would like to personally thank you on your purchase of a Volkswagen for your first car. These are very good cars, Honda is hype, and though that will be a neverending debate (Honda loses upon close analysis for being a hype badge with an H and no power, reputation only as reliable and thats it, read my Best Answer) I want to tell you you have purchased an excellent car that is very fast with the VR6 (if a VW four is not Turbo, it is OK but nothing special.)

So, Thank You. (My first car was a 1986 Volkswagen Jetta 5-speed, two years before they stopped making them in Germany in 1988. If your VIN starts with WVW, it is Germany. 3VW, it is Mexico.)

    Now, onto your question.

You have the VR6. It is a German V6. German engines like the heavier oil. They are not afraid of it. Japanese and American CAR engines are afraid of anything heavier than 10W-30. Germany loves weight. In the engine, in the car, it is their safety and design. Heavy all the way.

I personally would make your first oil change Valvoline MaxLife 10W-40 (always change the filter with it, but you can make it any filter you want, most of the time they dont do a lot due to their position on the engine) and add it 5 quarts even (you have a V6.) Doing that, you should have it up to the Full line on the dipstick, I always like it to Full, not in the middle. You can let it drip out or not, it doesnt matter (each quart when filling.)

10W-40 oil is ehavier and protects more than 10W-30 oil and will not significantly addect your mileage. Going heavier (and there are at least 3 grades of oil, more like 4 heavier than 10W-40 if you count the non-Multigrades) is unnecessary in your vehicle, unless your engine is in serious peril, then it might buy it some more thime, but that is not going to save it ultimately either.... another discussion for another day. (When your engine drinks oil almost like gas, as a joke. Means it is about to pass on to the VW salvage yard in the sky. No saving it, it served well.)

Multigrade starts as '10' weight (an approvimate number of the CFM moved through the engibe when cold, hence W for Winter) and gets up to 40-weight when at engine temperature. YOU -CAN- USE 10W-40 ALL YEAR. IT IS DESIGNED TO START UP IN THE WINTER, AS LONG AS YO DONT LIVE IN MINNESOTS WHERE IT GETS BELOW 0 DEGREES. NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW THAT. It will also protect very good up to about 100 or 110 degrees, and is the best spread.

You do not ever need to use heavier oil than 10W-40 in your VS Passat. You also do not need to use anything lighter.

THe MaxLife itself is more like a Synthetic Blend, and i tis OK. Full Synthetic is frequently a problem CAUSER in an old engine, as it knocks out things that were sealing something. It is also like conventional, and its base oils are that, with additives 'synthetic.' Synthetic means anything a manufacturer wants it to mean.

Enjoy your 93 Passat, dont get too many speeding tickets on the highway with it (It will go over 100MPH with -ease,- just like my BMW inline-6, also powerful with nothing but Torque) an dI am almost sure it has over 75,000 miles on it. Thank You.

The engine may be running too rich burning more fuel than is needed.

Coolant temperature is critical for proper fuel economy. How important is the engine coolant temperature sensor on an 03 VW?How would you like to pay for a new VW catalytic converter or exhaust system or other expensive parts???? It is VERY important to change it if it is faulty. It affects fuel mixture, power, shift points. This in turn affects O2 sensors, converters, exhaust system temperatures, and exhaust gaskets and muffler joints (from hightened temperatures) I wish I could impart to you how sophisticated and wonderful the VW product line is. Your car is trying to help you save money, but you are too lazy to do what it is telling you to do. Also, use only genuine VW coolant in this car, unless you like spending even more money! Also, only oil that meets VW/Audi specification 502/505 may be used. READ your owner's manual. Also, have your VW scanned at the VW dealer. They can reprogram your CPU if required with their VAGCOM. If you don't like the price of the temp sensor, use the internet to find a more agreeable price. Try 1-248-373-2300 in Pontiac Michigan. They will mail order you the right part for cheap. How much to replace the clutch of an N reg VW Polo?

The clutch is starting to slip a bit and I need to know how much to fix it! Thanks. How much to replace the clutch of an N reg VW Polo?Clutch approx 拢100 and it takes about 3 to 4 hours labour.

Definately go for a Valeo or LUK Clutch. Both of these are premier lines and shouldn't give any warranty problems. Try to avoid main dealers because their labour rate is crazy 拢50 - 拢100 and up per hour. Small garage might work for 拢30 - 拢40 per hour.

My advice is to price for the complete job including parts, this way if there is any trouble with the clutch when fitted, the garage is responsible for the labour costs for repair. Please note they will take a slight cut at the price of the clutch. Price it first so you know if you're being ripped off.How much to replace the clutch of an N reg VW Polo?Sounds like a fair price. What gives? How do I remove the door panel on a 1999 VW jetta?Look for a "plug" a small peice of plastic that will have a cut out around it. Pop that up w/ a small screwdriver or a pick. Under that there might be a small screw. If you cannot find a plug, then the only thing holding the armrest on are "clips". They are fragile so try not to pull to hard. They are very inexpensive to replace if they do break, and they are easy to find.

If this didn't help you, just call your local body shop and they will be able let you know.

Hope this helps..How do I remove the door panel on a 1999 VW jetta? There are two bigger philips head screws underneath the armrest. You need to pry off part of the armrest to get to them.

This might be tough to describe:

On the part that you grab to close the door (from the inside) there is a strip that is about an inch or so wide, right down the middle. Start from the top and get a flat tool (a screwdriver if you have nothing else) and be careful, this edge is somewhat easy to deform (it wont look to bad either way).

Once you have it started just work it off of the armrest. It will come pretty easy. There are two screws and a switch for the power windows and the power mirrors. Remove the screws and lift off the door panel, (I am assuming the rest of the screws, the speaker and door lock post have been removed " the armrest is stuck").

Disconnect the plugs fromt he two switches if you have them and the door panel will be free.

There you go, if you have any more questions about the window regulator you are probably trying to troubleshoot, just let me know.

How do you replace the fuel line on a 1961 VW beetle?

A full tank of gas leaked out of my beetle from under tank area of the car. I have bought 1/4" fuel line to replace the old line but I am not sure how to do the work. Can anyone give me step by step instructions? How do you replace the fuel line on a 1961 VW beetle? It is a short section of hose needed that run from the fuel outlet at the bottom of the tank and the hard line coming out of the front tunnel on top.

If you don't have access to a lift, jack up the front (use jack stands and chalk the rear tire) and set the e-brake. You might have to loosen the tank brackets from above so the tank can move enough to get to the bottom outlet. Clean the tank outlet and the hard fuel line coming out of the tunnel. Not sure what line you bought, but braided 5mm line is the best.

Use small clamps and make sure you don't over tighten them.

Once you have both ends secure, re-tighten the brackets on top and you should be good to go.How do you replace the fuel line on a 1961 VW beetle?open the trunk lid and remove the gas tank , you should see the rubber line that needs replacement , if it is the one that goes through the pan , well it is a bit more complicated but basically tape the new one to the old one and crawl under the rear near the transaxle and pull , good luck .

Could I feasibly transplant the suspension system from a Citroen into a VW Golf?

Or any other car for that matter? I love the suspension from old citroen xantias, BX's etc... they're so good that nowadays Bentley and Rolls Royce use them. So I'd like to put some in my VW.Could I feasibly transplant the suspension system from a Citroen into a VW Golf?As far as swapping parts, almost certainly not. Even if it would fit, the suspension has to be matched to the car's weight and performance. Even the same car with a different engine in it will have a different suspension from the factory.

What is it that you like about the suspension in our Citroen? Find a forum for the VW, and ask about an aftermarket suspension that will give you the same benefits. www.vwvortex.com is a starting point, but there are many, many forums to discuss VW cars.Could I feasibly transplant the suspension system from a Citroen into a VW Golf?its not 42 either

Then later, VW sent me a letter realizing that it was a common problem and reimburse me for the repair and it happened a few more times over the years and they've fixed it for free everytime and they will continue to fix it for free for as long as u own the car. So take it to them and make them reimburse you for the parts you already bought.

How do I replace the entire headlamp on my 1997 VW Passat?

I unscrewed the top two screws, but can't get to the lower ones. I am assuming I need to take off the upper piece of the bumper, but can't figure it out. Please help.

Thanks! How do I replace the entire headlamp on my 1997 VW Passat?Yes undo the bolts above the light, which should loosen off the metal running across the top of radiator, unattach the various wires that are attached then carefully push the light out from engine bay forward. If it is still 'stuck fast' check for any secondary fixing points, i think there are 4 in total.(2Xbolts %26amp; 2Xscrews?) You shouldnt have to remove the bumper!

You will have to be abit brutal to get the old one out, especially if the indicator is seperate (It may help to unclip that 1st %26amp; remove too so you can see around the side!) Putting the new one back in is more straight forward, just remember where the bolts go back!

I had to take the headlamp out of my '95 Audi which is pretty much the same as the passat!

    Goodluck!
