How do you get to the battery on a VW Vanagon?

Supposedly it is under the passenger seat, I can't find it. Do I need tools to gain access?How do you get to the battery on a VW Vanagon?Slide the seat forward. There is a carpet flap behind the seat, pull it back. Black cover behind the seat is the battery box cover. Usually it is held down by a couple of phillips screws. If it is a camper, reverse the seat before moving it forward.
