Wow....please do yourself a favor and do some more research on reliability before making a decision in vehicles. A Jetta is one of the least reliable vehicles out there; especially a used one.



I wouldn't touch this car, but the best way to find out if a price is fair is to go to a number of different sources and compare prices. See what other people are advertising similar cars for on autotrader.com and go to edmunds.com and get the true market value of the vehicle.

kbb is a decent guestimate, but their prices tend to be a little overvalued/overestimated compared to the real world.



All in all, the amount you can get the vehicle for depends on how much the dealer has into the car. If he bought it for $10,000 and then put $500 into reconditioning the vehicle, he won't accept your offer. However, if he bought it for $8,000 and he is inflating what he thinks it will sell for, you may stand a chance with your $10K offer.

The way I see it, the base car with 44 thousand miles is worth about $12,600 as an asking price. Now how negotiable you can get I don't really know. What I'm trying to say is if the car is not a base model and is already at 12k then there probably isn't much negotiating room.
