I was wondering, do they generally have seats in the inside like a bus or is there usually a flat open space that a person (or two) can put a mattress in and sleep in?What does the inside of an old hippy vw kombi look like?Speaking as an ex-hippy, mine had two rows of seats when I got it. I removed the middle one and put in some cabinets for my diving gear, ice chest (for the fish and abalone) and general storage. the tops of these could be converted to more bed space by a pull-down set of acordion folding panels... A second battery and a bypass system allowed lights and DC power to be used at night without fear of a dead starter battery in the AM. I also outfitted mine with a second fuel tank to up the driving range to a bit under 600 miles per fillup. (back in the days when gas was about 70 cents a gallon).
BUT.. in general the factory interior had quite a few options from seats to mini-camper options including a stove and icebox. On some models the roof lifted to provide headroom and a tent like top.
We hippies were creative souls.. we customized them to fit the lifestyle we led... (grin).

They were used for fishing, camping, etc. All gear diving suits etc were loaded in, plus tent. Always a mattress as they were extensively used for Sexual escapes. What does the inside of an old hippy vw kombi look like?
