Can some other key making store make a key for my vw jetta or only dealer can?

I have a 2000 vw jetta and don't have a key for it and dealer said only they can make it. I saw whole bunch of pre cut keys so i was thinking some store can cut it for me. Just maybe someone did it before and please let me know if the key will start the car or only the one that dealer will make!!! Those keys have chips in them that need to be synced to your car so that it will only work for yours. They can be quit pricey but it really is the only option. The best way to go to is the dealer. It will cost you around $250. It CAN be programmed at a few places but they are hard to find. Dealer is easiest.



The key only opens the doors and starts the ignition. You need an immobilizer program to do it and nobody carries these other than a few specialty shops because the equipment is expensive. Or you could try this:
