How can I fix the locks on my 97 VW Jetta?

The doors are unlocked but when I open any door the alram goes off. The key in the driver side door will not disarm the alarm. The key in the door does not even move the door lock up or down and the blinking red light is not on. Does anyone have any suggestions? How can I fix the locks on my 97 VW Jetta?I have seen a lot of these. On the door adjacent to the handle is a star bolt take it out and slowly remove the handle. Look inside and you will see a paddle looking piece sticking out of the handle.

Make sure it is not broken. If its not then realign this paddle so it goes into the slot inside the door. You can easily see this with a small flashlight as you are looking into the door through the hole from the handle.

Its probably broken or if the door has had work this piece was not put in position properly. How can I fix the locks on my 97 VW Jetta?I was told this is cause by the latch in the door not working and needs to be replaced. To disabled the alarm so you can at least use your car use the key to unlock the trunk this will disable the alarm. If you lock your car you will have to disable the alarm each time from unlocking the trunck with the key. I have a beetle with the same problem and this si what I was tild hope it works on the JettaHow can I fix the locks on my 97 VW Jetta? On my '94 Jetta there is a vacuum motor in the

trunk which you can hear when you open or lock

the doors. Do you have this type of locking system?

If you do, can you hear the motor now when you lock

and unlock the driver door? How about the passenger

door? If you don't hear the motor when attempting

to lock to doors trying both doors it may be the motor.

If it works on the passenger side then it is most likely the

mechanism on the driver side has failed. If the motor

runs on for more than a few seconds you may have a

vacuum hose that has disconnected. Check the accordian

rubber on each door for a disconnected hose(you must unhook the rubber to see the hose inside). If it has come off you can crazy glue it back in place. The motor is in the trunk behind the covering drivers side rear fender. You may have to take the drivers door apart and replace the mech. on the lock.

Good luck....
