You'll need some inverted torque screwdrivers, small phillips, and what they call a "dogbone" (a firm plastic piece for popping off plastic trim and such without scratching). First pop off the mirror. This will expose the inside so you can start removing stuff. Be very careful as the mirror may break if you don't remove it right. Then remove all the screws so you can take off the plastic mirror housing. You may have to remove the interior panel to access some of the screws. Some of the VW models you need to.
