What is the difference between a Vw split (bug) decklid and a Vw Oval Decklid (bug)?

I was wondering. Can you tell me if a split window decklid would fit on a 1954 oval. Or if any of the later oval window decklids would fit on a 1954 oval. I believe the license plate light on the split is different. It is called a Durante nose because of it's shape.
