My VW gold has a hard time shifting into first gear?

1992 Diesel VW golf 5speed. When the car comes to a rest, a lot of the time it is quite difficult to be able to shift the car into first gear. It will want to go into third or if I really mess with it I can get it to go into first. Do you think that it would be clutch related? From what I can tell there seems to be life left in the clutch still(no slippage). Would it be a shifter or transmission issue? I can live with it for now, but I woory about my wife driving it like that.My VW gold has a hard time shifting into first gear?Sounds like the Shifter Bushing may be going out. Depending on where the bushing is deteriorating will cause problems shifting into a particular gear. In your case it would be first gear. It's not good idea to drive it excessively like that, because it will only get worse.My VW gold has a hard time shifting into first gear?Have you renewed the gearbox oil recently?
