What trailer hitches work for a VW Jetta?

I just got a 2005 VW Jetta (updated bodystyle), and sadly I can no longer fit a bike in the back. I'm looking to install a trailer hitch that I can attach a bike carrier to, but I don't know what class hitch will work/fit on it. Also, are there any types of bike carriers that will/won't work for a smaller car? What trailer hitches work for a VW Jetta?believe it or not the best place to get a hitch for your Jetta is uhaul thats where I bought mine for my 2000 Jetta and our 2000 bug they are cheaper than the other stores and they install them for about $65 dollars and for a little bit more they will sell you a lifetime warranty (had to get a new trailer wiring harness and it was covered under this warranty) remember uhaul does not make there own hitches they are made by a regular hitch company (I use to know who but I can't remember ) we have a receiver type bike rake that holds 4 bikes and also tow trailers and a small camper and have never had a problem . hope this helpsWhat trailer hitches work for a VW Jetta? We too have the updated 2005 Jetta.

Both our bikes were carried in back by the Yakima Bike Carrier with no problem. For one year.

However, after buying kayaks , we got a Genuine VW roof rack that could accomodate both kayaks and bikes.

This is really the best way to go. The roof rack is so convenient and sturdy.

We chose the Genuine VW rack system over after-market because of the quality, versatility, and it looks the best too! Its made of machined aluminum and looks like its part of the car.

By the time you find , buy and have the trailer hitch installed [doesnt seem like it is an item thats easy to do yourself], and then buy the carrier to fit it, for the same price [maybe even less], you can have a roof rack instead. Just a suggestion.

Plus, with a roof rack , you can even carry snow boards, skis, etc.

You could even get a luggage rack or one of those sleek looking 'storage containers' to expand your carrying capacity. They mount to the roof rack too.

So in my experience the roof rack is the best way to go.
