What kinds of clean air equipment will need to be added to make it leagal for driving in Texas. Thanks for your help. How top buy a mexican new VW beetle for use in the USA?You said new and you know there must be some reason why the bug is being sold new in Mwxico and not in the States.
They will not pass the safety standards.
Many of the vehicles that are used in other nations will not be allowed in the USA for that reason. Even famous names like Toyota sell different vehicles in different nations even if they look the same they are not.How top buy a mexican new VW beetle for use in the USA?I believe it is legal to buy a old beetle but with the smog limits it would have to have been manufactured before 1978, but for all the paperwork issues you would have to call your local license bureau. I know of people who have bought canadian cars and brought them to the US. They made beetles in mexico until I believe the late 1990's so any car made after the smog laws would have to meet current smog emissions laws and thats the reason VW stopped importing them here because its too expensive and not worth while. How top buy a mexican new VW beetle for use in the USA?You said "mexican new VW beetle", so we're all assuming you mean the older, air-cooled style of cars (which, btw, have not been manufactured by VW anywehre in the world for 2 or more years). What companies used to do is buy an old, rusty american Beetle, completely refurbish the frame, then install the new engine %26amp; body sheetmetal on the old frame. You ended up with about 85% new car, while the frame and title showed whatever year the donor Beetle (usually mid to late 60's), making it old enough to be exempt from emissions standards. These were known as "MexiBeetles".
Your best bet is to buy a well-cared for older Beetle that was meant for the states, and see if there's a shop nearby that specializes in these older machines.
