I have 2004 VW Jetta. I've heard that newer cars have an oxygen sensor and will not run if the converter is missing. Anyone know about this particular model??Will a VW Jetta run if you take out the catalytic converter?Yes, but the oxygen sensor won't be your biggest problem. The catalytic converter creates heat and pulses that help to pull the unburned exhaust gases out of your cylinders, with out this process, your car may feel sluggish and vapor lock. If your going to run a turbo, then ditching the cat would work because it would force all the junk out. Most small displacement cars are sensitive to a change in exhaust pressure and temperature. What I would do is cut out the old one and have a high flow cat installed, you also need to get a high performance oxygen sensor for it to read correctly, magna-flow makes just about the best sensor on the market. Will a VW Jetta run if you take out the catalytic converter? It will probably run, but the check engine light will blink constantly. AND, if you live somewhere that requires smog inspections, it will not pass.
HOWEVER...REMOVING STOCK EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT IS A FEDERAL OFFENSE.
Why do you want to remove it? If there is a problem with your cat, it may still be under warranty. Federal Law requires manufactures to place an 8 year/80k mile warranty on emissions parts. Will a VW Jetta run if you take out the catalytic converter?I've seen other cars like that. Usually you can get around it by leaving the converter in the system, but punching it out so there's a straight open path for exhaust to flow through. This is illegal in some states (but so is removing the converter to begin with). Will a VW Jetta run if you take out the catalytic converter?
ALL cars with cat have an oxygen sensor (o2 sensor/lamda sensor)
they will all run, most engines run better (more BHP) but will use more fuel, and probably wont pass emissions tests.
