Why does my freinds vw jetta rev higher than other cars at the same speed?

ok so my freind bought a 00 vw jetta 2.0 manual, nice car, no complaints, and i noticed other vw doing this but at 80 most cars are at about three thousand rpm while the jetta is at three thousand fivehundred-ish. so i was wondering why i know its how its geared but there has to be a reason it revs that high Why does my freinds vw jetta rev higher than other cars at the same speed?European cars rev higher than American cars. Higher compression, and different gearing. Why does my freinds vw jetta rev higher than other cars at the same speed?
There is nothing wrong with the car it is just lower geared then some other cars. Every engine is designed a little different so VW just set that car up to rev higher for the best performance and gas mileage where as with a different engine best performance might come at a lower rpm so that is the reason for the different gearing. I once owned a Chevy truck that revved 3200rpm at only 60mph because it was a camper special from the factory meaning it was built with lower gearing so that it could still easily accelerate and go up hills wheel packing a camper. I have talked to other Jetta owners and they also told me that their car revved high on the highway so I know there is nothing wrong with your friends car that is normal for that car.Why does my freinds vw jetta rev higher than other cars at the same speed? All cars are geared differently. Manual transmissions are usually geared a little lower then automatics (meaning they will turn more RPMS). Cars with smaller engines are also usually geared lower because they need high engine speeds to produce power. 3500 is not unusual for a car like a Jetta. Why does my freinds vw jetta rev higher than other cars at the same speed?
totally depends on how the car is geared. My prelude revved 3000 rpm at around 70. Saying "most cars are at 3000 at 80mph" is a blanket statement. My dad's truck is just barely over 2000 rpm at 80.

The clutch isn't slipping......what the crap is that. Why does my freinds vw jetta rev higher than other cars at the same speed?LOL... tell you the truth the cltuch is going out so thats why eveytime he or she steps on it it revs high because the cltuch is slipping. Time to upgrade to a better clutch. Why does my freinds vw jetta rev higher than other cars at the same speed?
It probably the gearing. Also the 2.0 may need to rev up to a higher rpm range which in turn a high horsepower range just to do 80.
Tire size OR gearing will have this effect.
