I'm looking at one with a new everything i can think of. The owner has a list of every repair ever done. It lists pretty much everything I can think of. But maybe I'm not thinking of something. 35K on a rebuilt engine, rebuild automatic transmission, new spark-plugs, breaks, battery, brakes, gas tank, lines, hoses, catalytic converter, alternator, sensors of various kinds, etc. What should i make SURE is working or new that I may not have thought of?Looking to buy a VW Vanagon with a rebuilt everything. What are somethings I should ask before I buy?Check for underbody rust, check to see if the wiring for the dash has been redone.
Rust is going to be a problem on a car so old. The electrics will have become brittle and probably failed.
Check for water tightness around the door seals. Check door frames for rust. Check wheel wells for rust. Check tire wear. Check suspension wear. Check steering rack for damage. Check for covered rust spots on the body (think Bond-o).Looking to buy a VW Vanagon with a rebuilt everything. What are somethings I should ask before I buy?Whats probably going to leave you stranded are the sensors for the transmission. Junk parts. Make sure the gear selector switch was replaced when the transmission was re-built
