How do I stop my VW V6 4Motion automatically locking after its been unlocked for a short time?

My V6 automatically locks after about a minute if the passenger/drivers door is left open. This caused much distress the 1st time it happened as my 2 year old daughter ended up being locked in the car along with the keys. there is no way of preventing this. it is a security feature.

if the doors have been unlocked with the remote then unless the remote is inside the car the doors will lock if there is no activity after approx 35 seconds.
