Help with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?

My girlfriend's VW Beetle has the engine shaped light with a little lightening strike through it on and it says "Check" What does this mean and is it expensive to fix. It has just had a new back box fitted and the Catalylictic Converter replaced. What can I do to get the light of and car fixed?Help with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?It probably needs the 02 sensors replaced. This would be a few hundred dollars but it isn't all bad: her mpg will increase a lot and also, they would need to be replaced in order to pass any kind of smog or emissions check.Help with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?

You should take it to a vw dealer/specialist and they will run a diagnostic check on the car via the ecu. This will tell you what the problem is and they can fix it.You need to do this as it could be a major problem and it could be causing further problems in the mean time.Help with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?It may be an oxygen sensor that's what it was on my car 01 JettaHelp with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?
the lambda can be reset with vag-com or obdtool.

u have 2 go to dealer or garage how has that .
looking at the manual for my vw, yes it needs to go to a dealer, or to be honest a cheaper alternative, an auto electrician i don't think your girl friend has a problem its only down to resetting because something has been changed within the system (the lamp is for the emission control!)Help with Exhaust Emmission Warning Light being on on my VW?
First of all look for any loose contacts and broken vacuum hoses if non can be found, I suggest you visit a VW competent shop for them to run a diagnostic check of the system. This will tell the exact fault and the required remedy plus cost.Goodluck.
Find someone with a vag com (shop or dealer, or VW enthusiasts). They will read what codes it is throwing to properly diagnose the issue. How soon after the catalytic convertor did the light come on? Immeadiatly? May have been a bad repair job, or something got bumped.

There are tons of possibilities, you need to go to someone with a vag-com (highly recommended over an OBDII).
go to a vw shop and have it scanned, good luck
