Will a 1994 VW Jetta gls automatic transmission fit a 1996 jetta gls if I were to swap them?

I have aquired a 1996 VW Jetta GLS that needs a new transmission. I am wondering if a 94 jetta gls transmission will fit mine in a swap, since I know theese German Jettas are wierd. Any clues?
