What should I know about buying a VW Beetle?

I am a new teenage driver and interested in researching buying a car. I am specifically interested in a VW Bug (1998-present) I am looking for general feedback on this model of car in all areas, especially these:

*What is a good price for used in good condition or new?

*Which is better to buy? Used in good condition or new?

* Is this a good car to start with? What other car should I consider?

*How easy is it to get serviced? How expensive are parts?

*Generally, how does it run?

*Any problems you had with this car?

*Any other helpful comments. :-DWhat should I know about buying a VW Beetle?Bugs are based on VW Jetta engine/running gear so repairs are no more than normal. Never buy new -- you will lose 60% of the value of the car in FOUR YEARS. Buy a very clean four year old Bug, drop two thousand into a savings account for repairs (possibly will never need them) and pocket/invest the other ten thousand dollars you will save. Cars seem to be very well built though a bit pricey to maintain (typical German car).

Last but not least -- this is a girley car. What should I know about buying a VW Beetle? This is one of the most unreliable cars on the road. Expect to be in the shop for so many times that you will have your own coffee cup there at all times. What should I know about buying a VW Beetle?all i know is they are made in mexico and there was problems with the early models.
