Should I trade in my VW New Beetle before or after I replace the transmission?

My 2000 VW New Beetle (GLS, hatchback, non-diesel) needs a new transmission. Besides that the car is in relatively good condition: 90,000 miles, paint job is almost immaculate, clean and undamaged interior, etc. But I'm done with this car--I want to trade it in. Financially, would I be better off replacing the transmission and then trading it in, or trading it in as is? The garage is quoting me somewhere around $2000 to replace the transmission. Thanks!!Should I trade in my VW New Beetle before or after I replace the transmission?if your trading it in you'll never get the money back that you spend on a new tranny.

if you selling to a private party you might get most of that money back.Should I trade in my VW New Beetle before or after I replace the transmission? If you really are going to trade in the VW then I wouldn't waste the money. Just trade it in and let the dealer deal with it.
