The VW Beetle made only small improvements each model year. The cars were so similar each year that with only a few pieces of evidence the year could be discerned. small (oval) tail lights changed to larger half round lights in 1968. Btwn '65 and '66...engine went from 1200 to 1300 cc, emergency blinkers added in 66, as well as vented wheel slots, larger rear view mirror...that's on the outside. For what's on the inside, go to

Good luckIs there an internet site where I can find identifying characteristics to tell the year of VW Beetles I see?that seems to also matter what country it is exported to US standards are different than Canadian or Mexico. 65-66 could be just engine size.(and/or full synco transmission)(and/or wiper works at 2 speeds).
