I see an extraordinary number of decorated Beetles - flowers, birds (often the same ones on lots of different cars) and even the word "mine" on one near where I live!



What is this all about? Are you offered them by the dealership when you buy? I never see these stickers on any other type of car. The VW Beetle used to be the ultimate flower power hippie accessory and they were decorated quite garishly in the 80's by the "peace, love, flowers and nature" fans who owned them. VW stopped making the Beetle for a while and when it was reintroduced, some people have simply carried on the tradition. The fact that it is mostly women is that it does not convey a very macho image. Lads prefer flames and decorations that convey the idea of power and speed, and not on a VW which is "uncool". The Beetle is favoured by women: it makes them feel safe (fact).Is it compulsory for female VW Beetle drivers to decorate their cars with flowers and birds?im not sure where you are but down here in plymouth its not just the beetles, we have crappy old fiestas, saxos and clios with flowers on, im convinced its to cover up rust or hold things together! you also get those girly girls who decorate EVERYTHING in their car with pink fluff, its a distraction for me when im driving!
It is a statement of individuality and a wave of 2 fingers in the air to convention. You are saying - "don't tell me, i know i am driving a heap of crap that was obsolete 40 years ago, but i like it so up yours!".

you dont have too!! beetles are associated with hippys so are flowers so maybe that is why!
