IF my 2000 vw golf has a valve cover that is leaking oil and has 176,000 miles is it safe for a 3 hour drive?

It also needs a coolant flush, power steering flush and brake flush. well as recommended by the dealer. People who really know about VW can you please help me out?IF my 2000 vw golf has a valve cover that is leaking oil and has 176,000 miles is it safe for a 3 hour drive?I agree with Kenny.

However, please do the other items suggested by your dealer.

Reason is that the engine needs cooling as well a lubricating ; that means the radiator must be in top shape.

And of course, your life is on the line if the brakes are not up to par. Most manufacturers recommend a brake flush every 2 years. This keeps the lines from accumulating moisture and degrading the master cylinder too.

So take care of your car and it will take care of you.IF my 2000 vw golf has a valve cover that is leaking oil and has 176,000 miles is it safe for a 3 hour drive?
Never take a car to a dealer is you can at all help it.

Dealers want to sell new cars, not maintain old ones, so are not even very good at it.

Good mechanics quit the dealers and open their own independent shop, where you will get much better service.

For example, you never ever flush power steering, as that can only cause harm.

Coolant flush should only be done about every 8 years or so, because new coolant causes much more corrosion than old coolant can. You only do it because you want to get out any rust silt, and you can easily do that yourself with a $3 Prestone adapter kit. Ask your local auto parts store.

Brake fluid should be flushed every 5 years or so, but carefully.

If a person flushing fluid pushes the brake pedal all the way to the floor, and there is any accumulation in the master cylinder, it will ruin the seals. Careful mechanics only pump 75% of the way down, to prevent this. Which is why you should not take it to the dealer.

As for the valve cover leak, it depends on where and how much.

It it is near the timing belt, and is as much as a tablespoon a day, then do it right away.

It is not worth contaminating the timing belt.

But just minor seepage is otherwise fine.

However, the gasket is only a few bucks and it is easy to do yourself.

Just remember to tighten diagonally in several stages, so that you don't pinch or accumulate slack in any one part of the gasket.IF my 2000 vw golf has a valve cover that is leaking oil and has 176,000 miles is it safe for a 3 hour drive? As long as you keep check with the oil level. Usually valve cover leaks, leaks very little oil. You should be fine.IF my 2000 vw golf has a valve cover that is leaking oil and has 176,000 miles is it safe for a 3 hour drive?
Get it done before you go .Coolant %26amp; brake flushing is a good idea.I Suck out as much power steering fluid as possible,%26amp; top up with fresh %26amp; repeat after 2 weeks until it's clean. No damage caused this way.IF my 2000 vw golf has a valve cover that is leaking oil and has 176,000 miles is it safe for a 3 hour drive? It depends on your engine oil consumption rate, but as an operator I would be addressing it before the trip. Changing a Valve cover gasket is something that can be easily accomplished in a driveway under 20mins. As far as the Power Steering Flush I would not do it unless you are having other system mx done (Example Bad Hoses/Pump). The power steering system is a sealed system and in my experienced with the car, the more you screw with it the more problems will result. Had a family member with the same 01 TDI golf and year that I have. Always got the power steering system flushed power steering rack seals failed at 84k mi , I never touched mine until 198k for bad hoses, I still have the Original pump and rack on the car at 204k miles.
