How well will a Vw classic bug engine do in Arizona heat?

I see alot of classic bugs for sale and I am looking to buy one. I was told that the air cooled engines would not hold up well in the Phoenix heat is that true? How well will a Vw classic bug engine do in Arizona heat?if it has an aux oil cooler,it will be just fine, but it is more than likely 32-41 yrs old,and need a lot of work. How well will a Vw classic bug engine do in Arizona heat? They will do fine in the desert, just remember a few things, make sure all the engine sheet metal and seals are there. The sheet metal and seals keep the hot air that has already "cooled" the engine from being sucked back in and making it run hot, this includes keeping the engine decklid shut so that the cooling air is drawn through the vents at the top. The next thing is don't "lug" the engine, since the cooling fan is driven by the engine it is important to keep the rpm's up to keep the air flowing. And lastly, using an external oil cooler preferably mounted outside the engine compartment and with its own fan will help keep the engine happy. How well will a Vw classic bug engine do in Arizona heat?Kind of funny, they do well in Mexico. Which was one of the last countries to make the old bugs. They also did very well in the desert races back in the 60's into the 90's.

Forget what you heard, VW Bugs have been preferred in the desert for years, even Erwin Rommel had one in North Africa and it never over heated.
