I have a 1997 VW Jetta and I'm looking to increase horsepower with tweaks and/or parts. I am on a budget though. What can I do to do that??????How to gain horsepower in a 1997 VW Jetta?Well it really matters how far you want to go with it.
And since its a german make, the parts sure will be pricey, The first thing you should do
is upgrade the pulley, and also upgrade to an aftermarket air intake, air filter, oil filter.
If you think you can afford a exhaust system which will be about 300 or so,
and get headers with it. that should give you about 20hp or so. That is new tho, you should check out used parts, which will be noticeably lower.
hope that helps, and good luck on your vw!!How to gain horsepower in a 1997 VW Jetta?"Speed costs money, How fast do you want to go?" Need and engine and transmission for your vehicle as a 2.0L 4cyl vs a VR6 is a big change, same for autoslushbox vs 5 spd.

you have to make it breathe! get a hi flowing air filter, then open the exhaust up some with a hi flow muffler, like a cheap turbo. It will be noticeable when you drive it
