How much would it cost to replace a speedometer in an '85 VW Vanagon?

I'm planning on buying an '85 Vanagon for birthday in 2 weeks but the speedometer doesn't work. The van itself is in good shape %26amp; runs and only costs $900. Is the speedometer cheap or is it just not worth it?How much would it cost to replace a speedometer in an '85 VW Vanagon?the speedometer cable on that vehicle hooks into the bearing cap on the front drivers side.

there may be two cables as an egr box may be inline.

the cable could have broke or beed disconnected.

very doubtful that the speedo has gone bad.

a new cable will cost about $40 and installation should be about the same.

i hope this helps. Good Luck! How much would it cost to replace a speedometer in an '85 VW Vanagon?it is probably the speedometer cable and is relatively cheap if you can't find a new one they have universal ones you cut to length it runs from the back of your speedometer to the transmission
