While driving the batter light came on, and a few miles later it turned off. 50 miles later the same thing happened again. The car seems to be running fine and does not show any symptoms of a dead battery. This would happen when you are parked and not while you are driving because of the low rpm of the engine, the alternator has peak strain.

the only time the battery light will come on is if your lternator is not putting out anything and you are running off the battery until the battery gets low causing the light to come on. when an alternator starts to die it will work sometimes and not work other times until it eventually dies all the way. that's why the light goes out, the alternator starts working again. you should have the battery and alternator replaced as soon as possible, before it goes out completly.
