What year VW beetle should I purchase?

I want to buy and oldies VW beetle and needed to find out which year VW beetle is the most coveted? And, why? Furthermore, does anybody know a website that would show oldies VW?

Thanks. What year VW beetle should I purchase?A classic 'Oval Window' Beetle. See site for a picture

The Oval Window was produced I think from 1953 to 1957. They are highly sought after and generally are not cheap.

Even better than this (although a lot more scarcer) is the beetle with the split rear window. - produced until 1953.

Look at this site for a bit of history on the Beetle

In closing, in my opinion, any of the air-cooled models are classics and well worth restoring. What year VW beetle should I purchase? The older the better, and the least amount of rust in the floor boards as possible. You might need to look at 50 old bugs just to find ONE that isn't rusting apart. We have a 1956 at the shop, 6 volt

Try the Samba.comWhat year VW beetle should I purchase?I have a 1973, and I can get any part over at Auto Zone for really really cheap. Mine has 46 horses, which is enough to accelerate up a steep hill pretty well. It's a good, reliable year, very common too. Then again, that's if you want a daily driver. What year VW beetle should I purchase?
You did not say what your goals are.. daily driver, collection, or restoration...

For a daily driver any vw after 66 will be your better choice. It will hold its value and the parts are still quite easy to find.

Most coveted.. something from the mid 50's or earlier.. these things are HARD to find and parts are even harder. A good restored one will run you from $15,000 and up.

One to restore.. for the first time? Try a 66 to a 70.. easy to find parts.. not encumbered by too much in the way of smog or safety issues but easy to strip and rebuild..

good luck
