What is the modern day equivalent for the vw bus?

But PLEASE don't buy one, it's the one vehicle that encourages people to travel like cattle! What is the modern day equivalent for the vw bus?
The direct descendent is the current VW Multivan/Shuttle/Transporter range (also known as the T5).

However, in the UK the Ford Transit Minibus is a more common vehicle, and is relatively cheap, rugged and easy to drive.

Globally, Chinese-built minibus derivatives (and copies) of the Toyota Hiace (e.g. the Jinbei Hiase) are probably the modern cheap multi-person transport. What is the modern day equivalent for the vw bus?Thank God, there AREN'T any. Those things were death traps. Have you ever sat in one? You're sitting right up against the windshield, and the only thing protecting you is a thin piece of sheet metal about 8 inches from your knees. In a front end collision, you are VERY likely to DIE.

MODERN minivans have a nose on them with some protection in a crash.
The VW (Bay window) are still being made in Brazil (I think) and can be bought converted or not in the UK.
