What is the best oil and oil filter to use for an '04 vw gti 1.8T with over 100,000 miles?

I have a 2004 vw gti 1.8T that has about 105k miles on it. I am getting the timing belt fixed and also the oil changed, what is the best oil and oil filter to use? I know to use synthetic oil, but brand wise? And since I have practically have to take out the engine to fix the timing... should I replace anything else while i'm in there? What is the best oil and oil filter to use for an '04 vw gti 1.8T with over 100,000 miles?AMSOIL 100% Full Synthetic Oil far exceeds the performance of any other synthetic oil. When used in conjunction with AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency Oil Filters, your vehicle can operate for up to 35,000 miles or one year between drain intervals.

In a recent API Comparative Motor Oil Test, no other brand could outperform AMSOIL Full Synthetic Oil in any of 6 criteria (Thin Film Oxygen Uptake Test, NOACK Volatility Test, Pour Point Test, Total Base Number, Cold Crank Simulator Test, Four-Ball Wear Test).

You can view the performance test at this link:

As for oil- if synthetic was used by the previous owner, than stick with it.
