Looking for a vehicle with the power of a crown victoria and the space of a vw bus?

I drove an old police car for a while, and really liked the power it had, but now I'm looking for something better for trips. I knew a woman with an old vw bus, which was perfect size (not a hug van, but big enough to hold things as well as comfortably stretch out and sleep in) but the engine left a lot to be desired. The only other van I've driver is a Cheve Express, and that just never felt very powerful. Any suggestions?Looking for a vehicle with the power of a crown victoria and the space of a vw bus?Maybe look at big SUVs with big engines.Looking for a vehicle with the power of a crown victoria and the space of a vw bus?chevy k5 blazer

What kind of screwdriver do i need to tighten up my door latch on my 2002 VW Passat?

I need to tighten the latch on the back side door on my VW Passat. The screw head looks like a torques style head but it has more splines than a torques screwdriver has. Can anybody tell me where i can find this tool. What kind of screwdriver do i need to tighten up my door latch on my 2002 VW Passat? It IS a torx bit. If you still have the jack tool kit with your spare tire, good chance you'll find one in there. My New Beetle came with that screwdriver in its tool kit. What kind of screwdriver do i need to tighten up my door latch on my 2002 VW Passat? Not a torx drive. Is the same type as the old VW CV bolts. Usually called spline drive. The door latch is a 8mm spline drive. I went and looked in the Snap-On tool catalog. I find it called "triple square"drive.

How much weight can an air-cooled Vw pull?

I was wondering how much weight it could tow. Cause I love the old vw's but would love to go camping with an older ham can trailer. Could an older Vw bug/gia pull a vintage shasta trailer. Also would the trailer be hard to stop. How much weight can an air-cooled Vw pull?you actually might be able to tow your trailer. true that the air-cooled vw motors are pushing around 50hp, however because they are rear wheel drive and rear motor mount they have a very good torque to horsepower ratio, you could probably tow around 800-1000 pounds. so you could definitely tow an old ham can.How much weight can an air-cooled Vw pull?not much considering there frame and power

I have a 1964 vw air cooled bug, is there a starter that is 12v 109 teeth because all i find is 12v 130 teeth?

See i need a 12v starter with 109 teeth so i don't have to replace the flywheel. Because the 12v starters have 130 teeth. Could i take the old shaft out of my 6v starter and put it in a 12v starter that way the teeth stay the same? And do the make a generator for a vw bug that has 6v and 12v tabs?I have a 1964 vw air cooled bug, is there a starter that is 12v 109 teeth because all i find is 12v 130 teeth?I believe there are starters available in 12 volt with a 6 volt gear on them. A lot of guys just run 12 volts to the 6 volt starter. You can convert the whole mess to 12 volt but the bell housing on the trans will have to be modified to fit the larger 12 volt flywheel. Then there is the rest of the car, lights,T/signals,wiper motor...I have a 1964 vw air cooled bug, is there a starter that is 12v 109 teeth because all i find is 12v 130 teeth?Seems you a little mixed up, NO v.w. starter has 109 or 130 teeth. You confusing me on generator tabs also. I'm suposing you converting to 12 v from 6 v.! If so your 6 v. starter will be o.k. on 12 v. Find a bus or transporter fly wheel clutch an pressure plate for better traction with clutch. Get a 12 v. generator stand to put the 12v. generator on. Hope this helps, as I said your question is confusing.

  • Does anyone know where i can get a free vw golf mk4 owners handbook download?

Ive looked and looked, i can find ones for other cars and other vw's but not Mk 4 golfs. Don't wanna pay $25 if i can get it for free. Its a 2001 1.8 GLS Turbo

ThanksDoes anyone know where i can get a free vw golf mk4 owners handbook download?Hi!

Unfortunately, there seems to be nothing like a free, legal download of the data you're looking for. I figure you could download something like the Haynes Automotive Technical Data Software from e-mule, but that would, of course, be a copyright violation (even though I don't think this would send the 'federales' knocking on your door at 3:00 AM), in addition, there's always the threat of viruses, thus, and what with 25 bucks being a lot of money nowadays, should you decide for a download like this, you should make extra sure you have some good anti-virus software, updated, installed on your machine; I'm running 'AVG free' and 'Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy', both are (legal) freeware ...

What is the besy engine oil for a 2000 vw golf iv?

I want to put in new oil into my 2000 vw golf iv and would like to know the best type.. I have used semi synthetic oil before but it runs out every 5 weeks... My car has 51000 miles on it but its old... Its a 1.6 petrolWhat is the besy engine oil for a 2000 vw golf iv?== when you put any synthetic type oil in a car engine you should stay with that SYN-oil ... It sounds to me that the best you could use in a ""tired motor"" that only has 51K and a very small engine is now the use of 30weight oil. DO NOT USE Q-state, Penzoil, or AMELTIE or any other parafin based oil .... ESSO EXXON, MOBIL, Valvoline, ( you got it ) use a good brand name oil -- you should check the ground under the car engine to see if it is leaking and if so replace the oil pan gasket ... AND .... 12 years for a VW is not old ... you just need to take care to do some maintanience and parts changing and you can stay on the road for another 12 years...be carefulWhat is the besy engine oil for a 2000 vw golf iv?It seems your current oil has too low density in high temperatures. It depends how you drive it and where you drive it, but it seems that you need something that will perform better in high temperature. I'd go for 10W40 or if you're aggressive driver, spend a lot of time in traffic jams, or live in very warm climate then I'd even go for 15W50. Generally you need to make sure that second number won't go bellow 40 (that number tell how well it performs in higher temperatures). I use Motul 300V Competition ( 15W50) for my 2.5 litre Subaru. However, for 1.6 Golf it will be a bit of an overkill. I'd go for Motul 6100 Synergie+ 10W40 which is a very, very decent oil. What is the besy engine oil for a 2000 vw golf iv?Always use what the owners manual tells you, eg the weight and mineral or synthetic always use what is stated in the manual. Car manufactures spend millions of dollars on what oil is best for the engines they build, some 18 year old from an auto store doesnt even know the differance between oils.

Anyway if your engine is using that much oil in 5 weeks I think its time to take it to a workshop and get it checked out, could have worn rings, value stem seals, head gasket, heaps of things could be wrong. Get a pro to check it out.

  • Problem with VW Jetta Brakes and Suspension after Hauling?

I have a 1997 VW Jetta and I recently hauled it via full tow dolly behind a penske truck from PA to Alabama. Now my suspension is Spongy and my brakes hardly work at all. Could there be any connection? Has anyone every had this problem? There didn't seem to be a problem before, and this is fairly recent and frustrating.Problem with VW Jetta Brakes and Suspension after Hauling? It should have treated the suspension as if you had driven it from PA to AL, since the suspension/steering is independent of other systems. It's very possible it was close to one of your struts time to go and this long of a trip just pushed it over.

Usually use your brakes while driving and would notice any changes. So, it's possible something happened while towing (like a rock throw into a brake component) and it damaged it to where it's at now. Check your fluid level, if it's empty you will need to refill and bleed as well as check for any leaks once you have replenished the system. Also check for any obvious signs of damage to the rotors, calipers, drums (if equipped), ABS modules and inspect pads and shoes for no material or smooth appearance. It's possible a brake was locked (or became locked due to some incident while towing) and wore down or melted to the point where it doesn't work.

Does a VW new beetle have many problems?

I am thinking of getting one for my first car. im in love with the VW New Beetle; im wondering how many problems does it commonly have? does it drive well in the winter? does it really get good gas milage? does it have a certain point of milage when it starts breaking down? and all the other fun questions that a first time buyer needs to know.Does a VW new beetle have many problems?I have owned two New Beetles so far, and currently own a 2007 NB. I have never had any major problems with either. I know a lot of people with NBs, and I have noticed that when it comes to Volkswagen, you either get a fantastic car that will never let you down or you get a pile of junk that does nothing but let you down. As far as whether it drives good in the snow, the answer is yes. Despite what someone else's answer stated, the car is VERY HEAVY (over 3,000 lbs.) and is front-engine and front-wheel drive, which makes for a wonderful and easy drive in the snow! The best gas mileage I have heard of for a non-diesel NB is 25 to 35. I usually get 26 to 30, with a mixture of city and highway driving.Does a VW new beetle have many problems?
Ohhh yes it does, like any other car. For the frst couple of years it will be great especially while it is under warranty. Quick tip- the 2008 model beetles come with a 4 year 50,000 mile limited warranty and the 2009 model will come with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty but will have the maintenance included for those years. Your best bet will be to buy a 2008 model because the interior trim is what will mainly let you down after about 2 years like the door panel will bubble and fall apart, VW headliners fall down easily and the fuse panel on top of the battery corrodes and melts easily. They are however good on gas, great for a first car because of their size, very safe, and reliable. I have seen the worst of the worst at VW and I still drive one. They are in a league of their own for the price and the way they drive. Maintenance is key for a VW as long as you can financially make the commitment to take care of the car you will have little or no issues.Does a VW new beetle have many problems? It is reliable, fuel efficient, and a great car.

It is a German car so maintenance is a little more expensive and they do have minor electric problems.

It should be fine in winter because it is light so it should not easily sink in snow.

There is no certain mileage where they start breaking down.Does a VW new beetle have many problems?
I think conceptually it's a great car but I think the reliability is a bit sub par. If you're only going to keep it for the duration of the original factory warranty, you should be fine. I have an 2008 R32 and it's very reliable if that's an indicator.Does a VW new beetle have many problems? They have so many problems and safety issues, as a Toyota salesman I haver had 6 almost new ones come in to trade and take giant losss without caring as they just wanted out!Does a VW new beetle have many problems?
    do not.

What year VW beetle should I purchase?

I want to buy and oldies VW beetle and needed to find out which year VW beetle is the most coveted? And, why? Furthermore, does anybody know a website that would show oldies VW?

Thanks. What year VW beetle should I purchase?A classic 'Oval Window' Beetle. See site for a picture

    http://www.aidan.co.uk/photo7524.htm

The Oval Window was produced I think from 1953 to 1957. They are highly sought after and generally are not cheap.

Even better than this (although a lot more scarcer) is the beetle with the split rear window. - produced until 1953.

Then again, that's if you want a daily driver. What year VW beetle should I purchase?
You did not say what your goals are.. daily driver, collection, or restoration...

For a daily driver any vw after 66 will be your better choice. It will hold its value and the parts are still quite easy to find.

Most coveted.. something from the mid 50's or earlier.. these things are HARD to find and parts are even harder. A good restored one will run you from $15,000 and up.

One to restore.. for the first time? Try a 66 to a 70.. easy to find parts.. not encumbered by too much in the way of smog or safety issues but easy to strip and rebuild..

    good luck

Why does the electric window on my 2005 vw polo go up but come down by itself?

When I close the window with the one-click switch it goes all the up by itself but when it reaches the top it comes back down. anyone know what the problem is? VW dealership said I need to replace the motor. Why does the electric window on my 2005 vw polo go up but come down by itself? They are probably right. The motor has a resistance switch built in which will lower the window if it is stopped when going up . This is to stop people getting fingers, arms or heads trapped. These switches can get weak and the trigger and lower the window without anything stopping it.

On the other hand it could be out of adjustment. If the window goes up too high when it reaches the top it hits and thinks something is trapped and then re opens.

Or thirdly it could just be tight at the top and again it thinks something is trapped. If this is the case it can be solved with silicone lubricant on the rubbers. (This is unlikely)Why does the electric window on my 2005 vw polo go up but come down by itself?I know on my golf, when the battery has been disconnected you have to re-set the windows by running them to the bottom then back up in manual mode before the one-touch system works...it's worth a try re-setting yours. Failing that it seems the windows think there's too much resistance so they are rolling back down in the safety mode, so you need to find where that resistance is. Does the window go all the way to the bottom? Maybe the cables in the window mechanism have shifted?

I know 2 people that own NB convertibles.

One is a 30 year old woman. Bought hers used a couple of years ago.

The other is a 56 year old man .Bought new.

Both have owned them for many years; although I dont remember the car's years. Both love their NBs. Neither have had a major problem.

The one NB has just had its timing belt replaced; her car had over 100,000 miles on it. Thats the only part she has had to have replaced.

My wife and I have owned a 1999 NB [not convertible] and it was a great car; the only thing we had replaced was the water pump. Solid , reliable car.

However, any time you buy a used car , its pretty much a gamble. Unless you buy a Certified Used Car. They come with a warranty. NB's keep their value, and the converts especially so.

Thats the best way to go IMO.What is the best year for the VW new beetle?none, they all have major problems and are expensive to fix

Totally certain it will not if you are wanting to keep it upright. I wanted to move one recently and it would not fit in an Astra estate and that has a flat load platform. I just bought a VW sand rail and was told from the guy I bought it from it was a 2165 cc but looking at it next to my old 1600 they looks identical, how can I tell if it truly is a 2165 cc with out taking my heads off are the jugs bigger or heads? How can I tell if my VW Beetle air cooled engine has been upgraded to a 2165cc from a 1600cc?Some 2165 pics and a build description here. http://www.superbuggy2165.webpro101.com/鈥?/a>

Hope you see something you recognise! How can I tell if my VW Beetle air cooled engine has been upgraded to a 2165cc from a 1600cc?thats approximately 25 percent more horsepower, and its internal so you would see nothing, however its going to be much quicker in all four gears, and a lot more torque, We did this a long time ago, and had it burping the tires in second so there is a major power difference. Something I learned from a friend of mine long ago, adjust the valves everytime you do a tune up. Yes its more labor, but it will help keep that bug running long and hard through thick and thin.

I'm buying a 95 VW Golf is this a good deal and are there any known issues with them?

I'm thinking about buying a 95 VW Golf for $800 but it has 195k on a gas engine with a 5spd manual trans and it needs new tires, a blower motor for the heater and rear struts. Is this a good deal?

Also are there any known major issues with these cars. eg. GMs are known for having faulty bearings. Thanks for the help.I'm buying a 95 VW Golf is this a good deal and are there any known issues with them? This car is prone for having problems with the transmission in the manual and auto variety. The manual trans mostly has problems with the reverse syncro/gear mesh. When backing up you will here a rattling, kinda crunching whine, or it will just skip while reversing. Also these early A3 body VW's had issues with the wiring harness under the hood with regards to contacts and grounds.I'm buying a 95 VW Golf is this a good deal and are there any known issues with them?Fun to drive but very troubleprone. And not the kind of problems you can fix yourself. Lots of electrical stuff. On the other hand you can walk away from it at 3 months if all you paid was $800.

Are you ready to take a chance? Good luck.

Does anyone know where I can find a body kit for a VW II Golf?

I have just got my hands on a 1988 VW Golf 2 door sedan. I am looking to change up some things on the car to give it a more updated look. I would like to work on the exterior first and add on a body kit but have not been having much luck finding a full kit. If there are any other kits that may fit with some small adjustments please let me know this also. Thank you!Does anyone know where I can find a body kit for a VW II Golf?Strictly Foreign is probably your best bet.

That said, most people prefer to put the big bodycolor bumpers from the 90-92 MKII's. Some add (with slight modification) the Euro MKIII VR6 front spoiler which looks pretty good. European G60 Golf front arches are also popular, they make the car look wider.

So many cool options with those cars. I'm sort of out of touch with that whole scene but it was kinda trendy for a while to delete all trim, moldings and arches, while using the older thin blade bumpers from the euro 85-89 cars. I thought that also looked good in a different way.

Do whatever you like best , MKII's are a great choice regardless.

How do I "flush" my brake fluid in a 2004 VW Golf?

Can I just siphon out the fluid that's in there and fill it back with new brake fluid? VW wanted $90 to do it. Unless it's very complicated, I believe I can do it myself. How do I "flush" my brake fluid in a 2004 VW Golf?Suck out the old fluid from the master cylinder with a suction gun. It looks like a grease gun but with a hose and a handle at the other end that you pull to draw fluid into the gun. Pour new brake fluid in. Make sure you use the recommended fluid that it says to use in your owners manual, Or on the master cylinder cap. Mixing Dot3 And Dot 4 can cause gelling up of the brake fluid. After you've refilled it with new fluid bleed the brakes.

Have someone pump the brakes about 5 times and hold the pedal down after the 5th time and crack the bleeder valve open on the right rear brake. When the pedal hits the floor, have the person yell out floor and tighten up the bleeder screw. Tell the person in the car not to let up on the brake pedal until you say pump it, Or stop. Otherwise if they let their foot off it will draw air into the system. Then when you've tightened up the bleeder all the way tell them to pump the pedal again 5 times and repeat the process Do this 5 times per wheel. Fill up the brake master cylinder with fluid after you bleed each wheel so you don't run the master cylinder dry. Don't let the master cylinder run out of fluid!!!!!

Do it in this order. RR,LR RF LF....Right rear, Left rear, Right front, Left frontHow do I "flush" my brake fluid in a 2004 VW Golf?A flush is where new fluid is run through the system. How do I "flush" my brake fluid in a 2004 VW Golf?Well you cant get a BIOS

Put the cap back on and make sure your coolant level in the reservoir is up to the correct level. Is it an easy job to fit a Thermostat on a VW Touran? It should be fairly straightforward. It would be advisable to invest in a Haynes manual 拢20 - Halfords.

What do i do to add more horse power to my vw r32?

Hi, i need to no how to add horsepower to a 04 vw r32 im in the process off adding some mods..i added an intercooler anf a blo off valve and im addinga cool air intake but what else

how much horse power will an exhaust give?

how about an air filter?? what is an airfilter??

and how about other mods what will give me more hp on a bugget!!What do i do to add more horse power to my vw r32?You should do your exhaust which will give you anywhere from 15 to 20 hp but a significantly noticeable modification that can be done is a chip like "Revo" or "Unitronic" they should cost anywhere from $300 to $800.00.

An air filter would replace your air cleaner box which will expose the actual filter eliment in the engine compartment, therefor you would get more air in your engine

    :o)

LWhat do i do to add more horse power to my vw r32?
You put turbo accessories on an NA car? I'm confused...

Cold air intakes and exhaust won't give you much more power, they will just make the car sound faster. The factory intake and exhaust aren't restrictions on the R32. You can wire up a switch to the flapper valve in the exhaust so you can open the exhaust up all the time instead of just under load, that is a nice budget mod.

When it comes to the .:R, you gotta pay to play. For big power you'll need either a worked big valve head, high compression pistons, big cams, bigger injectors etc, or go with a forced induction setup like someone suggested before me.

If I were you, I'd get a set of used Schrick cams and a chip to match them. You'll spend under a grand and have a real power increase, not just a noise increase. What do i do to add more horse power to my vw r32?If you added an intercooler and a blow off valve...You forgot the part about a turbo, lol. An air filter does just as it says, filters intake air. I can't really give exact numbers on intake and exhaust systems, but you will have a gain. I would say "roughly", maybe 15-20hp gain. And for other stuff on a "bugget"..budget, you could get higher rate spark plugs, spark plug wires, ECU reflash or chip, and like you said an exhaust and intake. Don't just think about horsepower though. The more hp you add, you better be able to stop it and steer it. Put some money in your brakes and suspension too. What do i do to add more horse power to my vw r32?
your R32 has a naturally aspirated V6 engine. Intercooler %26amp; BOV will not help.

Exhaust can give a few HP. CAI's give a few HP.....

If you really want more HP, you gotta spend the money... perhaps a VF Engineering Supercharger. What do i do to add more horse power to my vw r32?Sell it and get a WRX or Evo?

    Just sayin.

    *Engine Oil

    *Wiper Blades (if required)

Measure the diameter of the tires you have now. The next rim/tire combo you buy should be the same size.

Getting larger wheels than you should have will affect your car's handling. Your Polo is a pretty agile car and you might lose some of that maneuverability if you got incorrectly sized rims and tires. Your car was optimized for the wheels you have, everything from the turning radius to acceleration will be affected.

Does 拢3750 seem reasonable for this rare car?

Cheers. Is 拢3750 a good price for a 50000mile mint condition VW Corrado G60 1992?has anyone driven a g60? they are great, the Corrado has slightly less power than the rallye but if the mileage and history is right then the price looks ok, check the injectors are standard (red tops give more go) and that the charger has a normal sized pulley as people often alter the gearing to increase bhp but this can shorten the chargers life and make the engine sound harsher (i think its worth it). Much more interesting than a vr6 and a definite cult classicIs 拢3750 a good price for a 50000mile mint condition VW Corrado G60 1992?
Unusual for a car at that age to have done just 50000miles. Need to get it checked out.

However for 拢3750 its a bit steep try and get it down to 拢2750.Is 拢3750 a good price for a 50000mile mint condition VW Corrado G60 1992?Hi I think its a bit overpriced for a 16 year car I wouldn'tt even call it a classic have a look on ebay i have just had a quick look theres a corrado vr6 for 拢1,650 granted theres still some time to go before it finishes but I just think that much for a 16 year old car is a bit over the top just remember its a buyers market at the moment good luckIs 拢3750 a good price for a 50000mile mint condition VW Corrado G60 1992?
Well, its true that there are not many G60s around and thats because the supercharger needs careful management. Count on rebuilding it every 50K. Personally I think the VR6 is a better car. Unless you really want the G60 its not worth the money despite it apparently low mileage, just remember that whats on the clock is not necessarily the same as what its really done, be cautiousIs 拢3750 a good price for a 50000mile mint condition VW Corrado G60 1992?I think that seems like a pretty fair price myself... I mean it definitely couldn't hurt to try and talk the seller down a bit, but if the miles are true (ask for a carfax to verify) and the car really is in MINT CONDITION and runs great and all of that, then I would definitely say that it's worth the money! Corrados are great and fun little cars! Just make sure that you know how to work on them yourself (invest in a bentley manual if you haven't already) or it'll nickel and dime you to death! ;)

Also, check out the VWvortex corrado forum, the guys on there will be able to help you out a lot!

    Good luck!Is 拢3750 a good price for a 50000mile mint condition VW Corrado G60 1992?
You could get yourself a nice Kompressor Mercedes for that, and have two grand in change!

Need advice on a vw central locking system?

I need as stated advice on a central locking system for a 99 VW Bora central locking control panel. Where is it located? Are there any images so I can see which one to purchase?

My central locking has gone kaput, so I need to waste a fuse just to get the boot lid or petrol cap open!

Any help on this appreciated! Please leave links as well for guidance.

Many thanks!Need advice on a vw central locking system?Your approach need to be a bit more systematic. The first thing to try is disconnecting each of the door central locking units in turn till you find the one that鈥檚 shorting out. If you go through all of them and it still blows the fuse with them all disconnected then the problem is more often than not, in the wiring loom of the car. Good look with that one!Need advice on a vw central locking system?your kidding right, a twelve year old car with an electrical fault and you want a quick fix, well i can tell you you have a short or very bad earth when you activate, does that helpNeed advice on a vw central locking system? You can use the key (behind the VW badge) to get into the boot and if you remove the trim inside the boot you should see a manual release for the fuel cap.

Given your apparent level of mechanical skill I'd suggest the only course of action would be to take it to an auto electrician for a proper fix.

Is it legal to take the Emblem off my VW golf in New jersey?

I have seen it alot around, but i want to know, is is legal to "debadge" my car, meaning taking off the golf, and the VW emblem off the back of the car. Please dont ask why, its just a tuner thing. Please, Cops, etc.. someone experience, thanks guys.Is it legal to take the Emblem off my VW golf in New jersey?Do what you want. It's perfectly legal to remove it. If you want, you could even put a BMW emblem on your car.

What would be illegal is if you put the BMW emblem on, then tried to claim that it IS a BMW when you sell it.

If you are leasing, then you have to return it to original condition before turning it in.Is it legal to take the Emblem off my VW golf in New jersey?
Well, if I owned a VW Golf, I would also remove the badge to make it as inconspicuous as possible.

Seriously, however, I do not know of any such law.

On a slightly different slant, many years ago someone in the UK took a Rolls Royce and fitted it with a Rolls aero engine (I think it was out of a Spitfire). I know Rolls started legal proceedings against him as he still called it a Rolls Royce. My memory is hazy, but I think Rolls won the case.Is it legal to take the Emblem off my VW golf in New jersey?Oh yeah, I know plenty of people that remove the emblems from their cars. Just as long as you have a license plate on it, the cops won't care what kind of car it is. A lot of the expensive BMWs and Mercedes around where I live have the model designation taken off the back. It looks cleaner and more symmetrical I think.
I think Guy is right, there should be no reason that you couldn't take your badges off...

I almost always debadge my cars, I think they look better, and it requires people to have at least a basic understanding of my car before they come up and talk to me!Is it legal to take the Emblem off my VW golf in New jersey?I do that with all my vehicles in MA. it makes it look cleaner and nice without all the words on it. it is NOT illegal to do. its your car, if you want to do it, feel free...

you should use something like a hair dryer to make the adhesive warm and loosen up. It will make it a lot easier to remove. Is it legal to take the Emblem off my VW golf in New jersey?
If you are the legal owner of the car, you can do what you want with it, and no one can tell you otherwise.

Removing and adding badges on cars is not illegal.
It's YOUR car you can do what you want to it! why give them the free advertising? No it's not illegal! As long as you are buying it and not leasing it!!Is it legal to take the Emblem off my VW golf in New jersey?
You can take off any badge, off of any car, anywhere.
It is not illegal to remove nameplates and emblems from your vehicle. Period.

  • What does your VW dealer charge for oil Changes?

I live in North York and just got an oil change from the dealership. The cost of the oil change was $88.86. So I was just wondering what other VW people pay when they take it into your dealership. Does the price vary at different locations 'cos I'm looking to pay less for the same job next time. Also, the next time I go in will be my "BIGGER" maintenance 32000km schedule and I think that will cost me an arm and a leg! What does your VW dealer charge for oil Changes?Yes dealership prices vary somewhat. This applies to all dealerships be they Ford, Bentley, GM, etc. Same principle when it comes to house buying or taxes; N.Y. is much higher than N.C.

Oil/filter changes at my dealership is $73 (with synthetic oil; standard oil is only $47). The price per qt. of synthetic oil is $6. At 5 qts. that equals $30. Filter is $15. That leaves $25 for labor. Not bad IMO.

Just out of curiosity I called the local Honda dealership abt. the price of an oil/filter change for Honda; they quoted me $70.

So, I dont know why some complain abt. VW dealers pricing.

Yes, "Jr."s Garage" might save us a couple of $, but is he using hi-quality oil or a genuine VW filter? Remember, you get what you pay for.

Yes you can do your own oil change (keep receipts for warranty proof). I have done so for many yrs. But for just $25 I don t have to crawl around and get oily under my car.

As for my local VW dealer, they are #1 IMO. They treat my wife and I like royalty. They charge a fair price, do it quick, and do it right the 1st time. I trust them implicitly. BTW, we live in Fayetteville,NC.

Your 32K visit will likely cost you $$, but its worth it ( the mechanics check just abt. the entire car and perform vital maintenance). Please have it done, its well worth the cost.

We have a 2005 Jetta and a 2006 GTI that our dealer keeps in top shape. The cars provide us with such a trouble-free and fun-to-drive ownership that paying for their maint. schedule is ,to us a small non-factor.

So there you have it; no dealer-bashing for us. In our experience, the dealer knows best.....

sWhat does your VW dealer charge for oil Changes?
That will probably be a tune up and valve adjustment. You can tell them to leave the oil change because you do it yourself."per se". It is none of their business where you get your oil changed at but they will cry that they can't guarantee this and that.....and you can tell them "ya,ya". You can even do the coolant change yourself. It is all in your owners manual as to what they do on the mileage check...so you can do most of it and tell them to do only this and this because you did the rest.

There is nothing anywhere that says the dealer has to do the work. I let them do the fuel injection timing, and head retorquing(as I drive diesel) and compression checking and injector cleaning and maybe check valve lash clearance. Timing belts, I change myself, air cleaners and oil and coolant I do.(because I can)What does your VW dealer charge for oil Changes?60 bucks here in new hampshire. however that is also for my gti 1.8t. Due to the turbo there is100% synthetic needed and its good for 5000 miles. What does your VW dealer charge for oil Changes?
    http://thisinall.ctoab.com

A very informative website, kindly stay a minute in website and checkWhat does your VW dealer charge for oil Changes?I could pay $25 for mine, but instead I do it myself. It's really easy and it saves me a lot of money. I only use 3qts in my 73.What does your VW dealer charge for oil Changes?
just so you know it that any shop can can oil you could do it at home really most places charge like 20 bucks
Prices vary a lot; labour varies from area to area, in the San Francisco Bay Area, labour runs (at the dealership level-from 100.00 USD to 155.00 per Hour), plus parts. Even parts prices vary from dealership to dealership, with the oil (various brands- all synthenic) from 6.50 qt. to 10.50 qt. (for VW approved and sold oil), plus the filter (though it seems the filter only has a dollar or so difference from dealer to dealer).

In this area, the farther away you get from San Francisco, the lower the labour rate is (that's way there is a 50% difference from the lowest rate to the highest) covering the nine Bay Area counties.

The difference between dealerships within a few miles of each other is fairly small; the independent VW specialist shops within the area that I'm at charge between 60 to 85 USD for a oil change on a 2004 Jetta 1.8 t, the dealership is at 75 USD, so its in the ball park (so to speak).

Depending upon where you are, Walmart has Mobil 1 European formula oil changes for earlier turbo and diesel models for $50 or so in this area, which is less than even the independent shops. Just be sure to have them change the oil drain plug washer (you supply it, tape to the steering wheel with a note %26amp; tell the write up person you want it changed and ask for the old washer back to be sure that they changed it).

If you choose to have an oil change type place change the oil; be sure to purchase your own drain plug washers from the dealer as well as the correct coolant and power steering fluid, as they probably won't have the right one on hand for your vehicle. Too many times, I've seen these outfits add the wrong fluid and cause expensive repairs. It's a German car and they require different fluids from the US made vehicles.

Hope this helps, a car nut.

we have just replace the timing belt and the sensor. what else could be wrong? its a 2002 vw beetle 2.0 auto. What else could be wrong with p0343 in a vw beetle? The fuel injection timing has to be set; and joe backyarder does not have that kind of equipment(because of the cost)....meaning it has to be taken in to the dealership.

Before on the old beetles it was gear to gear so nothing got replaced. So the timng was never out.

Now when you change the stretched timing belt with a new one, timing changes as to when the valves open and close.....as well as when ignition happens.

How can i make a copy of my VW passat Key?

i lost my original VW key. i have a spare but if i loose it i wont have a key at all. how can i make a copy without having to pay a dealerships ridiculous prices? How can i make a copy of my VW passat Key?Some locksmiths carry the transponder keys in stock, you'll have to call around to see which ones carry the key for you vehicle (I assume from the description it must be a transponder key that we are refering to). A few of the locksmiths also can programme the key to the vehicle; I usually recommend that you have at least three keys to the vehicle; 1) valet key, this will allow the door to open and start the car but won't unlock the glove box or the trunk or access to the gas release door button (Some models).. this is the perfect key to give the parking valet; 2) the normal keyless entry type key; opens the doors, trunk, glove box and can remotely open and close the doors/trunk (boot) by touching a button on the key; 3) the so called "sub master" key, which can open all the doors/trunk, glove box, etc. but does not have the keyless entry remote attached to it. Locksmiths in my area charge about $40 USD for a transponder key + programming charges.

Normally, I advise against purchasing the blank keys on the internet, most locksmiths (at least in my area of California) won't cut a key that they didn't sell you; even if you are able to find a locksmith who will cut your blank, most likely they will not warrant the key and or cut, so if it doesn't fit or cannot programme to the car, you're out of luck and out of money.

Some independent (NON VW dealerships) can programme keys to your vehicle via a VAG Com or similiar type tool. Call around seeing a shop that specializes in VW-Audi or German imports. The cost normally runs about 1.0 hours of labour on average x the posted hourly rate. In my area that runs from 95 USD to 135 USD at independent shops (NON VW dealership) to 115 to 165 USD per hour at a dealership.

Be sure to call around and set an appointment with whatever shop you choose to do the job; you'll save time and money this way. The shop will need to have your working key and whatever other keys you have in order to programme the keys to the vehicle properly. Cut however many keys you need in advance and bring them all to the shop with the car, keeping in mind that whatever keys you don't bring won't be programmed to the vehicle, so they won't be able to start the car (though they can open doors etc.). Every shop that I know charges a fixed rate to programme keys, usual that charge is one hour of labour and most VW's can have up to six keys programmed to start the car.

The dealership maybe more expenisve, but in most cases you'll save time. The keys (valet and sub master) aren't that much more expensive than the locksmiths and you can have the keys cut and programmed in one place, so you'll save a lot of time that would be wasted running around finding a locksmith, then a shop that could programme the keys to the vehicle.

Hope this helps, a car nut.How can i make a copy of my VW passat Key?
You can buy the key cheap online. But that is where the "cheap' part of this equation stops.

The key is laser cut and cannot be done at just any old locksmith.

In addition, the transponder keys must be programmed to you vehicles anti theft system. Some of those cheap keys do not have the resistor that the ignition ring looks for to allow the car to start. You might have to purchase this as well from the dealer.

Then the key must be programmed to the car using a VW scan tool and software. This must be done at the dealer or specialized indy shop.

You can program the remote by yourself if you have another good working key.How can i make a copy of my VW passat Key?You usually have to go to the dealership if it has a chip in it (immobilizer)How can i make a copy of my VW passat Key?

  • What does the lambda valve sensor on my VW golf do?

ive got a vw golf mrk 3 and the car seems to be missing when its ticking over. would the lambda valve be the problem? What does the lambda valve sensor on my VW golf do?The Lambda probe measures the oxygen level in the exhaust fumes and signal is sent to ECU (engine control unit) which then adjusts ignition timing to keep this at a specific level. Also the Lambda probe regulates the valve to help the ECU keep the oxygen level.

This is one way of getting the optimised combustion in your engine. There are other ways of doing this.

With regards to your little problem, you better let a mechanic have a look if it bothers you. It could be an array of different things causing your engine to misfire when idle.

However, if your fuel consumption is OK and engine running smooth when driving then why not save yourself a few pennies and wait till the next service comes up.What does the lambda valve sensor on my VW golf do?When it comes to the lamdba sensor also try getting it to someone in diagnostics as they can find errors in any sensor on your car I am currently having problems with mine. will let you know if i find out anymore for you. What does the lambda valve sensor on my VW golf do?lambda sensor : can be called an oxygen sensor, which measures the oxygen inside the exhaust, probably before it goes through the cat converter, this sends information to the ECU which can make some adjustments to the petrol/air mixture.

  • How do you change the oil in a VW Thing?

I have a 1974 181 VW Thing and I need to change the oil and filter. How do you change the oil in a VW Thing? All older VW engines are similar on the Thing you should have one large oil pan bolt unscrew to let the oil out . In the older engines there is no external oil filter. There is a internal oil screen to remove unbolt the 6 or 7 little bolts that go around the main oil pan bolt under the plate you will see the screen the best way I found to remove is using a flat head screw driver with not to much pressure and kind of prying it out. If it is not too old you can wash it off with carb cleaner and reuse. I suggest always getting a new one and a new gasket and bolts. Then just put the new one back in where the old one was, Make sure you dont torque those little bolts down to o hard they tend to strip easily so be careful. How do you change the oil in a VW Thing?Buy this book: please...http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Volkswagen-Alive-Step-Step/dp/1566913101/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8%26amp;s=books%26amp;qid=1207287336%26amp;sr=8-1How do you change the oil in a VW Thing?Same way as you would in any Type 1.

Locate the strainer assembly on the bottom center of the engine. It's a plate about 4" round with 6 small screws around the perimeter, %26amp; a large one in the center. The large screw is your drain plug. Put a drain pan under it, %26amp; remove it. When the dripping slows, remove the 6 smaller screws, %26amp; lower the strainer assembly. Some more oil will drip, so keep the pan under it.

Wash out the strainer with degreaser, or replace it with a new one. Reinstall it using new gaskets, %26amp; be careful not to overtighten the screws. Replace the drain plug.

There is no cap to unscrew to get direct access to the radiator on this car.Where to put radiator leak sealer in a VW Golf 3?Stop leak, or any so-called sealer is temporary at best, if it works at all. It usually stops up the cooling system causing more damage. You will eventually have to repair the leak, but after using the sealer, you will also, at the very least, have to replace the radiator and heater core and maybe the head(s).

It will be cheaper in the long run to just fix the problem right.Where to put radiator leak sealer in a VW Golf 3?Do yourself a favor and throw that crap in the trash! ! !

If you have a small leak, Have it fixed properly.

That stop leak will stop up your Heater core and you'll end up replacing that too.

The water passages in the heater core are a lot smaller than the ones in the radiator and I promise you it'll stop it up.

Why is my carburetor on my 1970 vw beetle cold?

My solex pict 3 carb on my vw gets really cold and sweats in my 70 beetle. Any thoughts? By the way this is while its running and and 90 degrees outside. Why is my carburetor on my 1970 vw beetle cold?feel the heat risers (the thinner tubes that run in front of the intake manifold). after about 2 minutes of running theses tubes should be very very very hot, so be careful when you do this. if they are not hot as hell... they are clogged up with carbon and your carb will do this because as the gas is vaporized in the vacuum created by the carb it becomes super cold. if its clogged enough you will eventually see ice form under the carb on the intake. so if the heat risers are not hot, they are clogged and you need to take off the manifold and try to clean the heat risers or replace the manifold with a clean heat riserWhy is my carburetor on my 1970 vw beetle cold?Carburetors do that. It is enough to cause ice to form in the carburetor in mild, damp weather. Why is my carburetor on my 1970 vw beetle cold?Look up carb icing. It will actually be worse on more humid days. You need to have a pre heat tube to warm the incoming air. When it gets down to 50 it will actually ice up and stop running. Why is my carburetor on my 1970 vw beetle cold?
You got yourself a massive vacuum leak, judging from the information I'd look for the leak somewhere on the carburetor base gasket or the intake manifold.

How can I properly time a VW 1600cc air-cooled engine w/ a Weber Progressive Carb and get it to start up?

I have installed a brand new 1600cc VW engine in a 1968 Bug. I'm using a Weber Progressive Carb. Fuel is flowing into the engine. I got new spark plugs. I just can't get the timing right to fire-up the engine. Can any one give me some insight to this problem? When I turn the key the Engine cranks but it will not turn over. How can I properly time a VW 1600cc air-cooled engine w/ a Weber Progressive Carb and get it to start up?did you put in the distributor or was it already installed? on the 1600 the distributor can be installed 180 degrees off. you might try removing the dist. turnint it 180 and try to start again, or haul it over to where you bought the engine and have them start it up for you.

once it starts the timing is 10 degrees btdHow can I properly time a VW 1600cc air-cooled engine w/ a Weber Progressive Carb and get it to start up?
Hope your dist drive has been installed properly! Assuming it has bring #1 to top dead center. Pull plug and feel for compression. Stop when time marks are lined up with split in case. Time marks; 3 marks, start with mark by it self. 1 mark, this is 5 atdc. so put it to the left of case split . Remove cap, check to see if rotor is pointing at #1 .

It should line up with time mark on top of dist unit where cap sets. Get all this right ,tdc#1,rotor lines up with mark, wires in the right order, it will start. Final timing set to whatever dist unit you are using. Total advance is like 32/34 degrees. How can I properly time a VW 1600cc air-cooled engine w/ a Weber Progressive Carb and get it to start up?have someone turn the distributor as you are cranking on it , also have you had you valves adjusted latley that was a problem i had tooHow can I properly time a VW 1600cc air-cooled engine w/ a Weber Progressive Carb and get it to start up?
That carb is trash trust me please. but you time that motor just like any motor.0 degrees @ idel and aroun 25 degree at 4000rmpHow can I properly time a VW 1600cc air-cooled engine w/ a Weber Progressive Carb and get it to start up?(when the engine cranks - it is turning over...it just ain't catching). Some buddy piss with your distributor? Or the wires in the cap? If so, you have to start at the basics. Turn the engine over by hand until the notch in the pulley matches up with the engine halves(about 12 oclock) Now, Pull the cap. Leave all the wires connected. Pull off the rotor so you can see the points. Turn on the key so that the dash lights are on and go back to the engine. Now you need a stick(like a popsicle stick) If the points are together and touch each other....spread them apart with the stick...you should see a small spark jump the point contacts. If the points are spread apart, push them together with the stick and let go. There should be a spark. (the stick is used as it is insulative to your body and to any other metal part.)

If you got spark we know the condenser is OK. Put the rotor back on. It only goes on one way - if you look inside the rotor, you will see a bump that will corresponse to the notch in the distributor shaft. Note which way the rotor is pointing. Look at the cap. it also goes on one way. What wire is the rotor pointing to. It should be pointing at number one which should be on compression stroke( a way to confirm that is to remove the valve cover on drivers side and check valve lash on the first cyclinder. Both rockers should be loose. If one is pressed down, then you need to rotate the engine 180 degrees and realign the notch on the pulley again. If both rockers are loose then you are on compression stroke.

Which way is the rotor pointing ? Is the corresponding wire going to #1 cylinder? Number 1 is behind the driver side rear(near exhaust pipe)(Fix it and the next wire clockwise on the cap will be #4(which would be on passenger side closest to passenger. Is the wire right? And next number 3 (driver side-behind driver, and then2(passenger rear near tailpipe). The wiring is set.

While the valve cover is off, might as well check the valve lash(with a feeler gage.) about 8 thousands of an inch for both intake and exhaust. Then rotate the engine backward 360 degrees and #2(on the passenger side) both valve rockers should be loose and gap same as #1, and rotate 180#3 and 180turn#4.

Now valves are set correctly for improved performance.

Close everything up and try starting. It should start and stay running.

If not maybe too much fuel is being dropped in there?

What are the different types of VW engines?

I'm buying a used VW, but have no idea what the different kinds of engines are. you know like GLS, GLX, TI and all those. If someone could help me out with all of those (even the ones i didn't mention), that would be great! What are the different types of VW engines?I'm assuming you are talking about a Jetta, so that's what I'll start with. GL, GLS, GLX, TDI are all trim levels, not engines, but they can include different engines. Circa 2000, a base GL would come with a 2.0L none turbo with around 120hp. The next step up would be the 1.8t, which would be badged as such (not sure what trim level came with those), which is a 1.8 litre turbocharged and intercooled 4 cylinder making 180hp. The next engine would be the VR6, which is a narrow angle V6, making roughly 200hp. Lastly is the TDI, which is a 1.9L turbo diesel. It makes about 90hp, making it the slowest of the four options, but it is also capable of getting upwards of 50mpg, and is much more reliable than VW gasoline engines. Quickest would be the VR6, but just barely, but the 1.8t is the best of the gasoline engines.

  • Can someone recommend a good year VW Cabrio to purchase?

Interested in purchasing a VW cabrio, but I want to avoid a year that will have lots of mechanical issues. I know it is an older car but I am trying to avoid a 'lemon year' if you will. Definitely want to go with somewhere between 98-01 (last year in production?). Any 'models' to avoid? Can someone recommend a good year VW Cabrio to purchase?I had a '98 Cabrio. Kept it for years. Absolutely loved it.

The Cab never let me or my wife down. 100% reliable.

When we were in the market for a convertible, we looked at Miata too. VW won out because of its superior safety [it comes standard with an anti-roll bar, thus protecting you in the rare event of a roll-over] and could seat 4 ppl.

I still miss the ol' Cab .....Can someone recommend a good year VW Cabrio to purchase?Haven't heard of any bad years, because the convertibles were so hand made that they were extremely good quality.

How much is it to have the brakes changed in a 05 VW Jetta GLI?

Should I go to a Pep Boys-like place? How much is it to have the brakes changed in a 05 VW Jetta GLI?honey, brake pads for your front discs costs 18 bucks max. Unless your rotors are ruined (you can look at them and if they have deep grooves, they need to be replaced) Disc brakes are very easy to change, if you can clean the lint catcher in your dryer, you can replace your brake pads. Maintenance and upkeep was out of control. And she didn't have the time, or the mechanical know-how, to do it herself. So while she loved her TDI Jetta, she got rid of it. If you like the car, get used to paying for it.
