What is the speed of the VW after the collision?

A BMW of mass 1 *10^4 kg is traveling at 47 m/s. It approaches a 1.2 *10^4 kg Volkswagen going 23 m/s in the same direction and strikes it in the rear. Neither driver applies the brakes. Neglect the relatively small frictional forces on the cars due to the road and due to air resistance. If the collision slows the BMW down to 38 m/s, what is the speed of the VW after the collision?What is the speed of the VW after the collision?Loss in momentum of BMW = 1 *10^4 [47 - 38]

= 9*10^4

Gain in momentum of Volkswagen = 1.2 *10^4 [v - 23]

Loss = Gain

1.2 * [v - 23] = 9

v = 30.5 m/s
